image ConductionsystemoftheheartwithouttheHeart.png right thumb 350px Image showing Bachmann s bundle Refimprove date December 2009 Bachmann s bundle , also known as the anterior interatrial band, is a broad band of atrial muscle that runs just behind the ascending aorta and connects the top of the right atrium with the top of the left atrium . Bachmann s bundle is, during normal sinus rhythm, the preferential path for electrical activation of the left atrium. It is therefore considered as part of the atrial conduction system of the heart . Interatrial conduction The normal cardiac rhythm originates in the sinoatrial node , which is located in the right atrium near the superior caval vein. From there, the electrical activation spreads over the right atrium. There are at least four different locations where the activation can pass to the left atrium. Apart from Bachmann s bundle these are the anterior interatrial septum, posterior interatrial septum, and the coronary sinus . ref Cite journal author Sakamoto, S I, et al. title Interatrial Electrical Connections The Precise Location and Preferential Conduction journal Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology volume 16 pages 1077 1086 year 2005 doi 10.1111 j.1540 8167.2005.40659.x ref Because it originates close to the sinoatrial node and consists of long parallel fibers, Bachmann s bundle is, during sinus rhythm, the first of these connections to activate the left atrium. Bachmann s bundle and the atrial conduction system Besides Bachmann s bundle, the other three conduction tracts that constitute the atrial conduction system are known as the anterior , middle, and Posterior anatomy posterior tracts, which run from the sinoatrial node to the atrioventricular node , converging in the region near the coronary sinus . The Mayer Bachmann s Brewery was the largest of the half dozen breweries on Staten Island before its destruction by fire in 1881. The brewery occupied the block bounded by Forest Now Ditson , Maple Now Lynhurst , Willow, and Tompkins Avenue s in the village of Clifton, Staten Island Clifton . Constructed in 1851, it was the first lager beer factory on Staten Island . Originally named the Clifton Brewery , it was financed in a joint venture between Antonio Meucci and Giuseppe Garibaldi . Comprising a number of brick buildings from three to four stories in height, it bordered rail road tracks of the right of way between the Staten Island Railway also known as SIR, and formerly known as SIRT and the former South Beach branch of SIRT. When it became Bachmann s brewery, SIRT had a station built with a wooden platform solely for the convenience of the employees of the brewery. The Mayer Bachmann s Brewery operated until October 31, 1881, when the factory was destroyed by fire. However, Frederick Bachmann rebuilt the Bachmann Brewery, without his partner Mayer Mayer got the insurance money and Bachmann got the brewery . The Bachmann Brewery, was in full operation under Frederick Bachmann until the last year of his life and eventual death on January 5, 1905, from Bright s Disease. It continued under this name until 1909 or 1910, when it merged with the Bechtel Brewery to become the Bachmann Bechtel Brewery, which continued until 1919, just after prohibition. When the Bachmann Brewery was at in it s hayday, Frederick Bachmann had associated businesses, including Beer Gardens, Hotels, and it was used as a resort, convention area. Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Josef Erwin Bachmann October 12, 1944 Reichenbach im Vogtland , Saxony February 24, 1970 became widely known in Germany for his assassination attempt on the leader of the German student movement , Rudi Dutschke , firing three bullets at him, on April 11, 1968. He was convicted of the attack and sentenced to a seven year prison sentence. While in prison in 1970, Bachmann committed suicide by suffocating himself with a plastic bag over his head. The attack Bachmann approached Dutschke, whom he had never met, in the street, having found out his address from the Einwohnermeldeamt , the registration office. Asking him if he was really Rudi Dutschke, he took out a gun and shot him in the head. Later on he told the judge that he had done it out of hate, calling Dutschke a dirty communist pig. After the shooting, Bachmann fled to a cellar where he took an overdose of sleeping pills but still continued firing his gun at police officers trying to approach him. He was taken to a hospital to deal with the effects of his overdose. Dutschke survived the assassination attempt but suffered brain damage and was forced to learn to speak again. He was left with severe health problems which in 1979 led to his death in Aarhus , Denmark . After Bachmann s conviction, he and Dutschke corresponded by letter. Bachmann committed suicide on the night between February 23 and February 24, 1970. In media Bachmann was portrayed by Tom Schilling in the 2008 film Der Baader Meinhof Komplex . It is useful when the friction hitch needs to be reset quickly often or made to be self tending as in crevasse and self rescue. See Prusik knot The Bachmann requires the use of a carabiner . It does not matter if the carabiner is locking or not. Most importantly, the carabiner must be of round cross section for friction. Grabbing hold of the carabiner will release the friction and allow the hitch to slide freely and thus be moved appropriately. To remove the Bachmann, just unclip the top loop, hold onto the carabiner and pull the cord free. This knot is frequently tied using a sling made from 1 tubular webbing. In this case wrap the webbing 3 times around the rope this means the carabiner gate must be opened 3 times in the tying of the knot for normal dry applications . There are a limited number of applications that involve repeated shock loads to the knot and in these 4 wraps are usually sufficient. However, with non locking carabiner it is safer to use the knot with carabiner gate opening facing down opposite to what is shown in the picture . This decreases the risk of self unclipping at maximum, one twist goes off. Otherwise, the whole knot may fail.
