The name originates from Burton Saint Lazarus after Roger de Mowbray opened a leper hospital to take advantage of the natural Spring hydrosphere spring water in the 12th century. The village currently has a population of between 400 and 500. The Order of Saint Lazarus established leper hospitals with the first being in Jerusalem in the year 530. The English branch of the order was based at Burton Lazars, Leicestershire in 1150. It was founded by Walter John Burton 1836 1880 in 1866 as the Grand Photographic Saloon and Gallery and was situated in Princes Street, Dunedin . Burton was a member of a prominent family of printers, bookbinders and photographers based in Derby , England , whose firm John Burton and Sons was founded by their father John Burton, and also included his other brothers, Alfred Henry Burton Alfred Henry 1834 1914 , Oliver b. 1841 , and John William Burton b. 1845 .     Burton B. Turkus December 2, 1902 &ndash November 22, 1982 was an attorney and author, best known for prosecuting members of the Brooklyn gang known as Murder, Inc. . As an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn in 1940, Turkus interrogated mobster Abe Reles , who had been arrested for murder. Reles became a government informant who revealed the existence of a violent gang of racketeers in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The group was named Murder Inc. by the press. Reles s revelations led to numerous other prosecutions. Turkus later wrote a book about Murder Inc., and in the early 1950s became host of the TV series Mr. Arsenic .
