    Henry Thomas Hare 1861 &ndash 1921 was an Edwardian England English architect , born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire Scarborough , Yorkshire , who was responsible for a trail of municipal buildings around Britain. Hare was president of the Architectural Society in 1902 and president of the RIBA 1917 1919. His trademark is an etching or carving of a hare which he included in every building. Henry Hare Dugmore c. 1890 The Reverend Henry Hare Dugmore 1810 1896 , a South Africa n missionary, writer and translator, was born in England , son of Isaac and Maria Dugmore. The family emigrated when his father was financially ruined after being forced to pay the debts of a relative for whom he had stood surety . The Dugmore family sailed to South Africa on the vessel Sir George Osborn in 1820 as part of the Gardner party of 1820 Settlers . Conversion and missionary work In 1830 Dugmore became a committed member of the Methodist Church of Great Britain Wesleyan Methodist church, and began to study for ordination. In the late 1830s he was appointed as the successor to the missionary William Boyce, who ran a Wesleyan mission station in the rural Eastern Cape at Mount Coke, near King William s Town . Dugmore quickly became fluent in the Xhosa language , and spent the next twenty years undertaking missionary work. He was jointly responsible for the first translation of the Bible and Psalms into the Xhosa language, and composed a large number of Xhosa hymns, some of which are still sung today. Later life In 1860 Dugmore moved to the town of Queenstown, Eastern Cape Queenstown where he spent the rest of his life. Life Born at East Betchworth , Surrey , 10 May 1693, he was the eldest son of the Hon. Hugh Hare , by his wife Lydia, daughter of Matthew Carlton of Edmonton, Middlesex . He was educated at Enfield under Robert Uvedale . On the death of his grandfather, Henry Hare, 2nd Baron Coleraine , in 1708, he succeeded to the title, and was admitted a gentleman commoner of Corpus Christi College, Oxford , under the tuition of John Rogers controversialist John Rogers , who married in 1716 his sister Lydia. He became a good classic, and was versed in history. Coleraine visited Italy three times the second time, about 1723, in company with Conyers Middleton , when he made a collection of prints and drawings of the antiquities, buildings, and pictures in Italy, given after his death to Corpus Christi College. He was a member of the Republica Letteraria di Arcadia, and a friend of the Marquis Scipio Maffei , who renewed their friendship at Coleraine s country seat, Bruce Castle , Tottenham . He was elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries , 8 December 1725, and frequently acted as vice president. Hare was the son of Sir John Hare and his wife Elizabeth Coventry, only daughter of Thomas Coventry, 1st Baron Coventry . He was the great grandson of Nicholas Hare Sir Nicholas Hare , Speaker of the British House of Commons Speaker of the House of Commons from 1539 to 1540, who purchased the Stow Bardolph estate in 1553. He had three sisters, who were married to MPs, and a brother, John Hare of Stow Bardolph. He was MP for Downton UK Parliament constituency Downton, Wiltshire in 1529 and possibly Wiltshire UK Parliament constituency Wiltshire in 1539 when he was elected Speaker of the House of Commons of England Speaker of the House of Commons , Lancaster UK Parliament constituency Lancaster in 1545 and Taunton UK Parliament constituency Taunton in 1547. In 1539 the nunnery of Bruisyard was dissolved and assigned by Henry VIII to Sir Nicholas. He was knighted in May 1539 and eventually became Master of the Rolls 1553 1557 . In 1554 he presided at the trial of Sir Nicholas Throckmorton , who had been accused of involvement in Wyatt s rebellion against the marriage of Queen Mary to Felipe of Spain. Sir Nicholas died in Chancery Lane in 1557 and was buried in nearby Temple Church, commemorated in the south bay window of the new Inner Temple Hall. He had married Catherine, daughter and coheiress of Sir John Bassingbourne of Woodhall nr. Hatfield, Hertfordshire. They had three sons and three daughters.
