They were also called HP 9000 Workstations series 300 machines, which were part of the HP 9000 line. The early Bobcats were about the size of a dormitory refrigerator. Their general physical architecture resembled a small relay rack , with an integral bus and interchangeable components disks, etc that could be slid in and out from the front. Processors were from the Motorola 68k series, and the machine used HPIB as the main interface bus. Machines originally shipped with HP UX but late in life were often loaded with the open source alternative, NetBSD .
