Edgar Allen Diddle March 12, 1895 in Gradyville, Kentucky , United States January 2, 1970 was a college men s basketball coach. He is known for coaching at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky from 1922 to 1964. Diddle became the first coach in history to coach 1,000 games at one school. Diddle was known for waving a red towel around along the sidelines during his games. He was known to wave, toss, and chew on this towel, and even cover his face in times of disappointment. Sometimes also known as a Ouija Windmill , a Hooey Stick or a VooDoo Stick . The word Whammy is sometimes Whimmy and the word Diddle sometimes Doodle , giving it a possible 3 other names, and the Gee Haw may also be dropped. Gee Haw refers to the fact that, by rubbing your finger against the notched stick while rubbing, the direction of the spinning propeller may be reversed. The operator may do this surreptitiously and yell Gee or Haw to make it appear that the propeller is reacting to the commands. Muldoon was penniless and clothesless, and Diddle thrived off the gypsy s attempts to get his gold. The strip has awful geographical accuracy, with one of the characters once welcoming our good neighbours, Cuba. The strip started around 1994, and continued until the 2004 revamp, with it reappearing in the 2012 annual. The strip was drawn by Tom Paterson for the most part, and the 2012 annual story was drawn by Nik Holmes . He also appeared as an The X Factor UK X Factor contestant being praised by Louis Walsh , in The Dandy that year. Ethnic controversy In February 1999 calls were sent in to the Joe Duffy s Liveline Show complaining about the strip portraying the Irish as stupid.
