Regional profile This is arguably the most competitive region in Ontario and one of the most competitive in all of Canada , as all three major parties have significant strength. Traditionally a conservatism conservative area outside Hamilton, it went for the Liberals in their sweeps of Ontario from 1993 to 2000, with the populatity of local left leaning Liberal Sheila Copps and the prominence of her parents Victor Copps Victor and Geraldine Copps Geraldine at the municipal level in Hamilton being major factors. Much of this changed in 2004, the year that happened to coincide with Sheila Copps departure from federal politics. In Hamilton proper, the New Democratic Party managed to pick up one seat from the Liberals in 2004 and picked up two more in 2006 to sweep urban Hamilton. Regional profile Notwithstanding the near sweep of the Conservative Party of Canada Conservatives in 2004, southern Saskatchewan typically produces an extreme urban rural split. The ridings that are entirely rural e.g. Souris Moose Mountain and Yorkton Melville are almost as conservatism conservative as ridings in rural Alberta, and are even more so now with issues like same sex marriage being highly unpopular. The urban areas of Regina, Saskatchewan Regina are traditionally more supportive of the New Democratic Party , but they were wiped out in three way races in 2004, and were unable to recover in 2006 or 2008. The Liberal Party of Canada Liberals also have some support in Regina, but it really only translates into one seat that of local born and raised veteran politician and former Finance Minister Ralph Goodale . Although Regina has double the population of a typical Canadian urban riding, the surrounding rural areas are too thinly populated for ridings of their own. As a result, Regina s four federal ridings each include large blocks of rural territory. The rural presence in the Regina area ridings largely neutralizes the NDP and Liberal blocs, making it difficult for them to win there. 2011 41st General Election Canadian ... more details

Regional profile The BC Interior is a fairly conservatism conservative area today, although it has not always been that way. From the early days of the party to the early 1990s, this region was a New Democratic Party until its support throughout the entire province collapsed in 1993. From 1993 to 2000, the Reform Party of Canada Reform and Canadian Alliance parties took over in a dramatic shift widely seen as a protest vote against established parties , winning handily in nearly every riding. The Conservative Party of Canada Conservatives continued to hold most of the seats in 2004 with one exception in the northwestern corner of the province , although the NDP did make some gains and hope to pick up an additional seat or two here in the coming election, although with staunch divisions on issues such as same sex marriage somewhat favouring the Conservatives here, it will be an uphill battle. Some of the strongest conservative support is in Kelowna and the Okanagan, where a large number of retirees reside. For decades, the only close races in this region have been between the Conservatives and NDP. This is one of the weakest areas across Canada for the federal Liberal Party of Canada Liberals , who are not expected to contend for any seats. 2011 41st General Election Canadian ... more details

featureDetectionCompVisNavbox LESH Local Energy based Shape Histogram is a recently proposed image descriptor in computer vision . It can be used to get a description of the underlying shape. The LESH feature descriptor is built on local energy model of feature perception, see e.g. phase congruency for more details. It encodes the underlying shape by accumulating local energy of the underlying signal along several filter orientations, several local histograms from different parts of the image patch are generated and concatenated together into a 128 dimensional compact spatial histogram. It is designed to be scale invariant . The LESH features can be used in applications like shape based image retrieval, object detection, and 3D Pose Estimation pose estimation .
