Multiple issues cleanup January 2009 expert January 2009 original research January 2009 unreferenced January 2009 The concept of multiple histories is closely related to the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics . In the same way that the many worlds interpretation regards possible futures as having a real existence of their own, the theory of multiple histories reverses this in time to regard the many possible past histories of a given event as having real existence. This concept was introduced by Richard Feynman , whose Feynman path integral is integral integrated over the set of all possible histories. The idea of multiple histories has also been applied to cosmology , in a theoretical interpretation in which the universe has multiple possible cosmologies, and in which reasoning backwards from the current state of the universe to a quantum superposition of possible cosmic histories makes sense. italictitle Polybius Histories were originally written in 40 volumes, only the first five of which are existent in their entirety. The bulk of the work is passed down to us through collections of excerpts kept in libraries in Byzantium , for the most part. The arrival of texts of Polybius in the west did not begin until the 15th century AD . As an interesting footnote to Polybius appearance in the 15th century, there is an argument made by J. H. Hexter as to the appearance of Polybius in Machiavelli , especially the section that survives in Book 6, the section which covers the description of the Roman constitution as a mixed constitution. The work survives from this period in the West in the works of such renowned authors as Montesquieu and others, and is in part the basis for the theory of the United States Constitution . The Histories are now read more for their insight on Hellenistic Greek and the beginnings of the Koine Greek Koine Dialectice or Common Dialect of this Hellenistic period. Content Image She wolf suckles Romulus and Remus.jpg thumb According to legend, founding of Rome Rome was founded in 753 BC by Romulus and Remus , who were raised by a she wolf. This England The Histories was a season of William Shakespeare Shakespeare s history plays staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000 2001. The company staged both of Shakespeare s tetralogy tetralogies of history plays so that audiences could see all eight plays over several days. The plays staged were Richard II play Richard II , Henry IV, part 1 , Henry IV, part 2 , Henry V play Henry V , Henry VI, part 1 , Henry VI, part 2 , Henry VI, part 3 , and Richard III play Richard III . Previously, the RSC had offered seasons in which one of the tetralogies had been staged at the RSC, such as The Wars of the Roses adaptation The Wars of the Roses the Henry VI plays adapted by John Barton director John Barton , or The Plantaganets the Henry VI plays directed by Adrian Noble . However, staging all eight plays in sequence was such a mammoth task that it had never been attempted. The RSC solved the problem by maintaining the same actors in the same role, but giving different plays to different directors. The directors often interpreted the plays and characters in very different ways some productions were in medieval dress, others in modern dress, for example. The Cast Samuel West played King Richard II of England Richard II David Troughton played Henry IV of England Henry Bolingbroke, later King Henry IV William Houston played Henry V of England Prince Hal, later King Henry V Adam Levy played Henry Percy Hotspur Henry Percy Desmond Barrit played Falstaff David Oyelowo played King Henry VI of England the first black actor to play a king for the RSC Fiona Bell played Margaret of Anjou Aidan McArdle played Richard III of England Richard Gloucester, later King Richard III The Stagings Steven Pimlott directed Richard II in modern dress on a bare white stage in The Other Place Michael Attenborough directed the Henry IV plays in medieval dress in a simple set in the Swan Theatre ... actor, this time Chuk Iwuji . Florentine Histories Italian language Italian Istorie fiorentine is a historical account by Italian Renaissance political scientist and writer Niccol Machiavelli , first published posthumously in 1532. Background After the crisis of 1513 , with arrests for conspiracy, torture and after being sentenced to house arrest, Machiavelli s relationship with the Medici family passively began to mend itself. If the dedication of The Prince 1513 to Lorenzo II de Medici had not any effect, part of the then dominant faction of the Florence was not against him, and instead granted him an appointment. In his letter he deplores of his idle state, offering his precious political experience to the new lord. To sustain that timid request Machiavelli, with a considerably courtier like spirit, set his Mandragola for the wedding of Lorenzino de Medici 1518 . On 1520 he was invited to Lucca for a mission of a semiprivate character, indicating that the ostracism was to be raised up. At the end of that year, Cardinal Giulio de Medici , later Pope Clement VII , commissioned him history of Florence . Although this was not exactly the charge he desired, Machiavelli accepted it as the only possible way to come back into the graces of the Medici. The intent of the work, although semi officially, was to recover the city s charge of historic officiality. The wage for the appointment was not large 57 florin Italian coin florins per year, later increased to 100 . The finished work was presented officially to Giulio de Medici, now Pope, in the May 1526. The Pope liked the work and rewarded him, albeit moderately, and asked him support in the creation of a national army, on the wake of his theorical work The Art of War Machiavelli The Art of War , in the preparations for the War of the League of Cognac . However after the sack of Rome 1527 and the fall of the Medici government in Florence, Machievelli s hopes were dashed. Machiavelli would die soon afterwards.
