In 1782 he moved to what is now Washington, Pennsylvania , which he and his brother, William Hoge , founded. Hoge was elected as a Democratic Republican to the 7th United States Congress Seventh and 8th United States Congress Eighth United States Congresses and served until his resignation on October 15, 1804.
