Caroline Danske Dandridge November 19, 1854 June 3, 1914 was an American poet, historian and garden writer. Dandridge was born on November 19, 1854 in Copenhagen, Denmark to Caroline Lawrence Bedinger and Henry Bedinger III, the United States first ambassador to Denmark. She was brought to the United States in 1857, living in Flushing, New York and later in Shepherdstown, West Virginia Shepherdstown, Virginia . In Shepherdstown, her mother purchased an estate called Poplar Grove , renaming it Morgan Bedinger Dandridge House Rosebrake and here the family cared for wounded soldiers during the Battle of Antietam . Danske married Stephen Dandridge on May 3, 1877. They went on to have three children. As a child, she used to write poetry and aspired to be a writer, but put her writing aside for some years. She began writing poetry again in 1883 and had her first poem published in Godey s Lady s Book in 1885. She renamed the family home Rose Brake at about the same time. In March 1888, Danske s first book of poems, Joy and Other Poems, was published by G.P. Putnam s Sons . In the late 1890s, she turned to writing garden articles for Garden and Forest among other publications, and after that devoted her time to writing works of history. She died at home in Shepherdstown, West Virginia on June 3, 1914. He had a promising artistic career ahead of him when he died at the age of 27. He was one of two children, along with Helena Nyblom Helena , in the lively and cultured artistic Roed household. He started his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Art Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi in 1861, won the small silver medallion in 1864, and graduated in 1866. He received the small gold medallion in 1868 for Den fortabte S n The Prodigal Son and the large gold medallion in 1870 for Optrin af Syndfloden A Scene from the Great Deluge , both of which are in the collection of the Academy. He received a travel grant from the Academy which allowed him to travel 1870 1872 to Italy Rome and Naples . Towards the end of his tour in Italy he became sick and returned home. He tried to bolster his health with a stay in the countryside, but died on 20 February 1874 at Iselingen estate near Vordingborg from an abdominal inflammation.
