    Unreferenced date December 2009 George Horatio Nelson, 1st Baron Nelson of Stafford 26 October 1887 16 July 1962 , known as Sir George Nelson, 1st Baronet , from 1955 to 1960, was a British engineer, the chairman of the firm English Electric . He was born in London the son of George Nelson. Nelson became chairman of English Electric in 1930 and was later knighted. He served in 1955 as president of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and in 1957 as president of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers . He was created a Baronet in 1955 and on 20 January 1960 he was made a hereditary peer as Baron Nelson of Stafford , of Hilcote Hall in the County of Stafford. Lord Nelson of Stafford married Florence Mabel, daughter of Henry Howe, in 1913. He died in July 1962 and was succeeded in the barony by his only son, Henry Nelson, 2nd Baron Nelson of Stafford Henry , who also succeeded him as chairman of English Electric . Lady Nelson of Stafford also died in 1962. Lord Nelson s role in the Engineering Industry was honoured by Staffordshire University , in the naming of the Stafford Site Library after him.
