    Image Logohj.png right Housing Justice is a charitable organization charity based in London formed in 2003 when the Catholic Housing Aid Society CHAS founded in 1956 and the Churches National Housing Coalition CNHC founded in 1991 merged. With over 60 years experience it is one of the oldest housing and homelessness charity in the UK. Other homelessness charities such as Shelter charity Shelter and Crisis charity Crisis were formed partly as a result of action by CHAS staff and board members. As the former names suggest Housing Justice has close links with churches in England and Wales and works with them and church based projects to raise the profile of homelessness amongst Christians of all denominations. Robina Rafferty, Housing Justice s first Chief Executive when she was Assistant Director of CHAS served on the Archbishop of Canterbury s Commission on Urban Priority Areas which was responsible for the 1985 Faith in the City report. The current President of Housing Justice is Cardinal Catholicism Cardinal Cormac Murphy O Connor and the Chair of Housing Justice is the Bishop of Dudley David Walker. Housing Justice today is active in over 35 communities across the UK funding housing advice centres, community regeneration projects and supporting church based homelessness projects. It is also responsible along with Scottish Churches Housing Action for organising Homelessness Sunday, held in January each year.     Sheltered housing is a British English term covering a wide range of renting rented housing for old age older and or disabled or other vulnerable people. Most commonly it refers to grouped housing such as a block or scheme of apartment flats or bungalow s with a scheme manager or officer traditionally the manager has lived on site although this is not always the case these days. Managers officers used to be called wardens but this term is now felt to be out of date. Sheltered housing schemes are generally owned, run and maintained by a housing trust , usually a not for profit organisation which works closely with and is part funded by the local authority . Accommodation Sheltered housing accommodation is self contained and easy to manage, ranging from a simple bedsit to a large flat or small house. Such schemes are distinct from a nursing home or care home in that the tenants are usually able to look after themselves, are active and are afforded a degree of independence equally, sheltered housing differs from retirement housing which is generally leasehold owner occupied . Many schemes have communal areas such as a lounge and or garden where tenants can socialise.
