It predates Torchwood as the first ongoing spin off of the Doctor Who universe. The series features Caroline John as Liz Shaw , working for the Preternatural Research Bureau. Many former Doctor Who actors, including former Doctors Jon Pertwee , Peter Davison , Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy , appear in the series playing different roles. Due to licensing restrictions, no overt reference to Doctor Doctor Who The Doctor is permitted. Doctor Who alumnus Louise Jameson co stars with Pertwee in all four films, as Patricia Haggard. 1. Sequencing by hybridization

Sequencing by Hybridization is a class of methods for determining the order in which nucleotides occur on a strand of DNA . Typically used for looking for small changes relative to a known DNA sequence . The binding of one strand of DNA to its complementary strand in the DNA double helix aka hybridization is sensitive to even single base mismatches when the hybrid region is short or if specialized mismatch detection proteins are present. This is exploited in a variety of ways, most notable via DNA chips or microarrays with thousands to billions of synthetic oligonucleotides found in a genome of interest plus many known variations or even all possible single base variations. The type of sequencing by hybridization described above has largely been displaced by other methods, including sequencing by synthesis, and sequencing by ligation as well as pore based methods . However hybridization of oligonuceleotides is still used in some sequencing schemes, including hybridization assisted pore based sequencing, and reversible hybridization. A logic probe is a hand held pen like test probe used for analyzing and troubleshooting the logical states Boolean logic Boolean 0 or 1 of a digital circuit. While most are powered by the circuit under test, some devices use batteries. They can be used on either Transistor transistor logic TTL transistor transistor logic or CMOS complementary metallic oxide semiconductor integrated circuit devices. There are usually three differently colored LED s on the probe s body Red and green LEDs indicate high and low states respectively An amber LED indicates a pulse as used in a NOID Light to test for pulses to fuel injectors on a electronically controlled fuel injection vehicle The pulse detecting electronics usually has a pulse stretcher circuit so that even very short pulses become visible on the amber LED. A control on the logic probe allows either the capture and storage of a single event or continuous running. Another control on the logic probe allow selection of either TTL or CMOS family logic. This is required as these families have different thresholds for V sub IH sub and V sub IL sub . Some logic probes have a separate audible tone for each of the logical states. An oscillating signal causes the probe to alternate between high state and low state tones. Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 File NeutronProbe 0001.svg thumb Neutron probe e neutron emitter d detector b shielding c counter . A neutron probe is a device used to measure the quantity of water present in soil . A typical neutron probe contains a pellet of americium 241 and beryllium . The alpha particle s emitted by the decay of the americium collide with the light beryllium nuclei, producing fast neutrons . When these fast neutrons collide with hydrogen nuclei present in the soil being studied, they lose much of their energy. The detection of slow neutron s returning to the probe allows an estimate of the amount of hydrogen present. Since water contains two atoms of hydrogen per molecule, this therefore gives a measure of soil moisture. Farmers use this to determine how much water is in their fields.
