It is of historical interest mainly due to the design of many early digital computers. Most early computers used some form of serial memory primarily delay line memory . Unlike the random access memory of modern computers, words in serial memory are made available one at a time the time required to access a particular word depends on the distance between it and the word currently being read. If a given line held n words, the average time to read a word would be math n 2 math word times. Without optimum coding, such a machine would spend most of its time idly waiting for instructions and data. To circumvent this problem, many machines, particularly the ACE computer ACE and its descendants, included in their instruction format a field specifying the address of the next instruction to be executed. Employing optimum coding, the programmer could locate an instruction such that it would be available in memory just as the preceding instruction had finished. For example, if a programmer had just coded an ADD instruction at address 400, and the ADD instruction required 4 word times to execute, the programmer would set the Next Address field of the instruction to 404, and would place the next instruction there. In the United States, optimum coding was most commonly employed on the IBM 650 and the Bendix G 15 . He is perhaps most famous today for serving as an inspiration of the Beatles song A Day in the Life . Biography Browne was the son of Dominick Browne, 4th Baron Oranmore and Browne , a member of the House of Lords since 1927 who later became famous for having served in that house longer than any other peer, finally being evicted during House of Lords Act 1999 government reforms in 1999 and Oonagh Guinness, heiress to the Guinness fortune and the youngest of the three Golden Guinness Girls . One of his older brothers was the Hon. Garech Browne , of Luggala, County Wicklow in Ireland, an enthusiast of Music of Ireland traditional Irish music and a founding member of The Chieftains , Ireland s leading group of traditional musicians. Tara Browne was a member of Swinging London s counterculture of the 1960s. Death On 18 December 1966, Browne was driving with his girlfriend, model person model Suki Potier , in his Lotus Elan through South Kensington at high speed some reports suggesting in excess of 106 mph 170 km h . It is not known whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcoholic beverage alcohol . He failed to see a traffic light and proceeded through the junction of Redcliffe Square and Redcliffe Gardens , colliding with a parked truck lorry . He died of his injuries the following day. There was also a mandir temple dedicated to Shiva and Parvati . In that village there lived a br hma a, Prabh kara, who was noted for his learning. He had a son who though appearing quite handsome, behaved rather like an idiot. Though upanayanam was performed for him, he did not take to studying the Vedas, instead preferred to sit around doing nothing. Hearing about Adi Shankara s visit, Prabh kara approached the Adi Shankara Acharya teacher with a load of fruit and prostrated before him. He also made his son prostrate before him. Prabh kara explained to Adi Shankara that his son behaved rather like an idiot and sat idly throughout the day. Then, Adi Shankara addressed that young boy and asked him who he was. Biography Ferrari was born in Boston . He changed his name to Larry when a nun suggested he American ize it. Ferrari s career in music started as a young child of 11 years old, performing at his local church. Not long after he was playing at a local skating rink.
