  1. StorNext File System

StorNext File System is a List of file systems shared disk file system made by Quantum Corporation . It is installed on hosts that are connected to the same disk array in a storage area network SAN . Client systems are not required to run the same operating system to access a shared filesystem containing StorNext data. As of January 2008, the operating systems with available client software are Microsoft Windows , Mac OS X as Xsan developed by Apple , Red Hat Linux , SuSE Linux , HP UX , Solaris operating system Solaris , AIX , and IRIX . StorNext is used in environments where large files must be shared by users without network delays, or where a file must be available for access by multiple readers starting at different times. An example of the former is analysis of real time satellite image data. An example of the latter is on demand access of a movie stored on disk. The original name was CentraVision File System CVFS . It was created by MountainGate Imaging Systems Corporation to provide fast data transfer between Windows and IRIX computers. Advanced Digital Information Corporation acquired MountainGate in September 1999, added additional client types, and changed the name to StorNext File System. The first new clients were Solaris and Linux. In August 2006 Quantum acquired ADIC. 1. Seahaven Towers (solitaire)

Infobox Patience Game Name Seahaven Towers AltNames NamedVariants DeckNumber Single DeckType 52 card Family Castle Seahaven Towers is a Patience game Patience card game that uses a deck of 52 playing card s. Rules Game play is very similar to FreeCell , except that cards are built down in suite and only a king or a sequence starting with a king may be placed on empty tableau spots. There are ten columns, instead of eight. In the initial deal five cards are dealt to each column, leaving two cards in hand. Restrictions The suit restriction makes the game more difficult. This is counterbalanced by there being more columns of fewer cards. Computer implementations A Seahaven Towers card game was provided with the Silicon Graphics, Inc. IRIX operating system. This implementation included an automated solver that could determine whether a particular game could be solved. There was also an Apple Macintosh version, circa 1995. It is based on the same architecture as the SGI Origin 2000 Origin 2000 but has an unrelated hardware implementation. At the time of introduction, these systems ran the IRIX IRIX 6.4 , and later, the IRIX IRIX 6.5 operating system s. The Origin 200 was discontinued on 30 June 2002. Hardware description The Origin 200 consists of one or two modules. In configurations with two modules, the NUMAlink NUMAlink 2 originally CrayLink interconnection fabric is used to connect the two modules together. Using two modules, the Origin 200 s capabilities the number of processors, the amount of memory, etc. is doubled. The Origin 200 and the Origin 200 GIGAchannel enclosures can be configured as a tower with skins that covered the bare metal for cosmetic purposes, or as a rackmountable enclosure compatible with 19 or 21 inch racks. Origin 200 module Each module contains a motherboard, seven 3.5 inch drive bays and two 5.25 inch drive bays. In configurations where an Origin 200 GIGAchannel expansion cabinet is used, the module also contains a Crosstown board that plugs into the motherboard. Motherboard The motherboard contains the Hub Application specific integrated circuit ASIC , a PCI bridge, two SCSI controllers, two UART s and an Ethernet controller. The PCI bridge provides the PCI bus for the three PCI X slots and the I O controllers. Processor The processor s are located on a PIMM Processor Included Memory Module that plugs into the motherboard. When first introduced, the Origin 200 supported one or two R10000 processors with 1 or 4 MB L2 cache each. In August 1998, an upgraded PIMM featuring the 225  MHz R10000 processors was introduced. 1. Snoopy Cache

In computing a Snoopy Cache is a type of memory cache that performs Bus sniffing . Such caches are used in systems where many processors or computers share the same memory and each have their own cache. In such systems processor A may read a value from memory, then processor B does the same. If either of the processors now change the value by writing back to memory they will invalidate the other processor s cached value. In order to prevent this, and maintain cache coherence snoopy caches monitor snoop on the memory bus to detect any writes to values that they are holding, even if these changes are coming from other processors or distributed computers. However, this approach can only work in computer architectures like SGI Challenge and SGI Onyx where a single memory bus is shared between all processors. 1. Xsgi

Xsgi is the Silicon Graphics SGI implementation of the X Window System X11 server for its IRIX based SGI IRIS IRIS graphical workstations and servers. Xsgi was released in 1991 with IRIX 4.0 on the SGI Indigo IRIS Indigo workstation. Work on Xsgi began in May 1989 ref http www.tuko.com u paquin background.html ref when Tom Paquin left IBM to join SGI to integrate the X Window System with SGI s IRIS GL interface. Paquin recruited a set of software engineers experienced in X server implementation Jeff Weinstein, Erik Fortune, Paul Shupak, John Giannandrea, Peter Daifuku, Michael Toy, Todd Newman, Spence Murray, and Dave Spalding. Graphics hardware designed by Silicon Graphics provided accelerated rendering access through graphics hardware commands rather than memory mapped framebuffers manipulated by the CPU. This made the Monochrome FrameBuffer MFB and Color FrameBuffer CFB device dependent rendering layers supplied with the MIT X11 Sampler Server inappropriate for Silicon Graphics hardware. Jeff Weinstein developed the No FrameBuffer NFB device dependent rendering layer to support the Silicon Graphics style of hardware access. SCO later incorporated the NFB layer in its X server porting layer ref http uw714doc.sco.com en HDK nfb CONTENTS.html Developing NFB graphics adapter drivers ref . Silicon Graphics hardware included overlay planes to provide a hardware overlay . Initial efforts by Todd Newman to implement overlay plane support in Xsgi eventually led to Peter Daifuku s fully functional support for overlay planes. Daifuku separated the notion of a window s visibility clipping region from the window s renderable clipping region. Previously the MIT X sample server treated these two clipping regions as being the identical region. Xsgi advertises overlay planes as X11 visuals with their overlay characteristics described by the tt SERVER OVERLAY VISUALS tt convention. Eric ... Press, ISBN 1 55558 096 3, 1993.
