  1. Ade Tuyo

Infobox Person name Joshua Ade Tuyo image image size caption birth date birth place Nigeria death date death place occupation Nigerian Railway Corporation , entrepreneur spouse parents children Joshua Ade Tuyo was a prominent Nigerian businessman from Ijebu Ode , Ogun State . Life He was born into the family of an Ijebu farmer and indigo trader. Originally trained as a teacher, he left the teaching profession for office work. He spent two dozen years as a clerical staff for the Nigerian Railway Corporation , the British Bank of West Africa and the ministry of Commerce, and retired in 1953. During his clerical years, he married an Ijebu woman who was born into a trading family in Onitsha . His wife took to trading while Ade was familiarizing himself with office work, as this was the dominant gender course taken by a lot of Nigerian households during the pre Colonialism colonial and early colonial period. In late 1949, Mrs Ade Tuyo lost most of her trading goods in a robbery operation. Desiring to go into a much more secure business, she entered a training course for bakery . After Mr Ade Tuyo retired, he sensed the potential in the bakery business, this intuition was partly fostered by the support given to indigenous entrepreneurs by the federal government. He pursued a successful loan application from the Federal Loans Board, and started De Facto Works, a catering and Bakery company. By 1969, his was the largest bakery service in the country. 1. Akarigbo of Remo

Unreferenced date December 2007 Infobox Writer name Akarigbo of Remo image imagesize 200px caption The Akarigbo of Remo or Lord of Remo is a title of Kingship attributed to the Oba ruler Obas or Lords of the Yoruba people Yoruba town of Sagamu pronounced Shagamu . This town and its surrounding areas are part of a larger community known as the Ijebu Kingdom . Background Image AkarigboOfRemo.jpg thumb left 200px Akarigbo of Remo. The Obas of Remo have been in existence since the founding of the Ijebu Kingdom by a prince of Oyo named Obanta and the arrival of the Prince Akarigbo to the western area of the kingdom roughly around the early 16th century. The title given to the Obas of Sagamu, Akarigbo, is in honor of this first prince of their line. The original seat of the Akarigbos was in the area of Remo near Offin, two towns located further to the west of the present seat of rulership. With the advent of the History of slavery slave trade in Dahomey and the wars between the Chiefs of Abeokuta and the Kings of Dahomey, a Human migration mass exodus of Yorubas from the areas of Abeokuta and western Dahomey began to migrate eastward thus enfusing the population of the area s subject to the control of the Akarigbos. Further adding to the instability, were the collapse of the Oyo Empire Kingdom of Oyo to the north of the Ijebus and the Jihads of the Hausaland led by the Fulani Caliph Usman dan Fodio . To combat these threats, the Akarigbo and the leaders of various groups founded the present city of Sagamu as safehaven for persons fleeing the fighting in the north and west. Members of four ruling families are eligible to ascend the seat of the Akarigbo, these persons descending from four of the sons of the first Akarigbo. 1. Nigeria Union of Teachers

Nigeria Union of Teachers is a major trade union in Nigeria . It was formed to create a united front for practitioners of the teaching profession in the country. Major objectives of the union covers the improvement in economic conditions of teachers, an avenue for bringing forth ideas about the educational development of the country from the perspectives of teachers and general economic security for teachers in the country. History The union was formally inaugurated in 1931, it came about partly as a result of vulnerabilities exposed by the great depression , which led to cuts in teachers salaries and a seemingly lack job security. The use of irregular and unpredictable educational codes for teachers and salary cuts led to an increase in teachers associations mushrooming in various southern Nigerian cities, particularly in Calabar , Lagos , and Abeokuta . The various associations, however, realized that harmonizing the objectives of the groups to bring about a united front will create a powerful vocal union for the interest of the teachers. On July 8, 1931, the teachers associations of Lagos, Agege, Abeokuta, Ibadan , Calabar and Ijebu Ode joined together to form the Nigeria Union of Teachers. The first president of the group and chairman of the July 1931 meeting was the late Oladotun Ransome Kuti, the husband of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti and father of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. On May 27, 1972, the union merged with the Northern State Teachers Union, an association founded by Aminu Kano and a few northern Nigerian teachers in 1948. References Boniface I. 1. Haruna Ishola

Haruna Ishola died 1983 was a Nigeria n musician, and one of the most popular artist in the apala genre. ref http www.afropop.org explore artist info ID 375 Haruna 20Ishola Afropop Worldwide Haruna Ishola ref Haruna Ishola Born Unknown, Ijebu igbo Died 1983 In the decades leading up to Nigerian independence in 1960, apala music developed when amateur musicians would play to arouse the faithful after the long fast of Ramadan. Born in the town of Ijebu igbo, Haruna Ishola began recording apala numbers in about 1955, and soon became the most popular artist in the genre, and one of the most respected praise singers in Nigeria. Ishola adapted and stuck to a strong traditionalist approach, citing both Yoruba proverbs and Koranic scripture in his songs, and introducing no Western instruments into his musical lineup. Ishola would sit when performing, surrounded by two talking drum mers, shaker and bell, and a chorus of singers. Also central to his sound was the agidigbo, a hollow lamellophone thumb piano , both plucked and struck to create a hypnotic ostinato at the center of the apala sound. Andy Frankel, who produced Apala Messenger IndigiDisc 2001 , an excellent retrospective of Ishola s work, lived in Nigeria during the 1980s. He writes in the CD liner notes, Among the most memorable anecdotes were that Haruna Ishola s voice was so powerful that his praise singing could kill its intended recipient if not provided with restraint. It went without saying that if you had to go, being done in by the praises of this man was not a bad option. In 1969, Ishola started STAR Records Ltd., in partnership with j j music legend I.K. Dairo . This was the first African record label owned by its artists. Ishola died in 1983, but his large catalog of recordings both on Decca and STAR ensure that he will not soon be forgotten.
