Robert Weaver July 5, 1924 September 4, 1994 was an American illustrator who was considered the pioneer of a contemporary approach to the field that began in the 1950s. Beginning in 1952, he embarked on a mission to combine the visual ideas found in fine art with the responsibility of journalist. At the time, most practitioners of illustration were expected to paint and draw for advertising and magazine assignments with artwork that was conservative, idealized and saccharine. Rarely was the artist called upon to inject their own opinion into the matter. Weaver reacted by moving his role of an illustrator from a page decorator to a journalist. He ventured from the typical haven of an illustrator s studio into the world and used a pencil to observe, record facts, and draw real life based visual essays. About the fantasy illustrator Carl Lundgren disambiguation Carl Lundgren born July 12, 1947 in Detroit , Michigan is an United States American artist and illustrator , primarily known for his 1960s era rock posters and fantasy art . Career Lundgren had an early interest in becoming a fantasy artist and illustrator like Frank Frazetta , his idol. At the age of 18, he was co chairman of the first multimedia science fiction convention , The Detroit Triple Fan Fair , featuring comics , movies and science fiction . In 1967 Lundgren met rock poster artist Gary Grimshaw , who was illustrating posters for a Detroit rock venue, run by Russ Gibb , called the Grande Ballroom . Grimshaw offered him a job, and Lundgren went on to create poster art for seminal bands such as The Who , Jefferson Airplane and Pink Floyd . These posters have since become highly collectible. In 1974 Lundgren moved to New York City and turned to science fiction and fantasy illustration for a living, painting nearly 300 book covers. During this time, Lundgren became a co founder of the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists ASFA and was nominated for a Hugo Award for his illustration work. Clive Barker, Illustrator is a book of ink sketches and some full color paintings by British author Clive Barker . It was published in 1990 by Arcane Eclipse Books. It also contains a lengthy interview with Barker, in which he talks about the various aspects of his work.
