Mingling with the painter at Abramtsevo , he began to take an interest in painting, and in 1882, started taking private classes from the leading Russian pedagogue Pavel Chistyakov . In 1885, Ostroukhov joined the Association of Travelling Art Exhibitions. Ostroukhov was primarily a landscape painter with a praised ability for depicting the natural. Arguably, his most famous painting is Siverko 1890 , considered by many one of the greatest Russian landscape paintings of the 19th century. Ostroukhov was a fervent art collector, and after the October Revolution his personal collection was merged with the Tretyakov Gallery. Ilya Grubert is a Latvia n classical violinist. He has won Paganini Competition and Tchaikovsky Competition in 1978. Born in Riga , Grubert began his studies at the Emil Darzins School of Music . He has studied under Yuri Yankelevich and Elizabeth Gilels Zinaida Gilels , and then under Leonid Kogan at the Moscow Conservatory . He earned his first international success at the Sibelius Competition in 1975. Subsequently, he won first prize in both the Paganini Competition in Genova and the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1978. Since then Grubert has had a distinguished career and performed with orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic , St. Petersburg Philharmonic , the Russian State Orchestra , Dresden Staatskapelle , Rotterdam Philharmonic , and the Netherlands Philharmonic . He has worked together with conductors such as Mariss Jansons , Gennady Rozhdesvensky , Voldemar Nelson , Mark Wigglesworth , and Maxim Shostakovich .
