  1. Footloose industry

unreferenced date June 2007 dicdef Orphan date February 2009 Footloose industry is a general term for an industry that can be placed and located at any location without effect from factors such as resources or transport. These industries often have spatially fixed costs, which means that the costs of the products do not change despite where the product is assembled. Diamond s and computer chip s are some examples of footloose industries. These industries can be located at a wide variety of places as these are not weight losing or raw material specific. Moreover, they produce in relatively small quantities, employing smaller workforce and are considered to be more efficient from an ecological point of view. These are generally not polluting industries. See also Global capital Green Belt References reflist industry stub Category Industries de Footloose Industry ...   more details

  1. Consciousness Industry

orphan date August 2008 The Consciousness Industry is a term coined by author and theorist Hans Magnus Enzensberger , which identifies the mechanisms through which the human mind is reproduced as a social product. Foremost among these mechanisms are the institutions of mass media and education . According to Enzensberger, the mind industry does not produce anything specific rather, its main business is to perpetuate the existing order of man s domination over man. Hans Haacke elaborates on the consciousness industry as it applies to the arts in a wider system of production, distribution, and consumption. ref Haacke, p. 273 ref Haacke specifically implicates museums as manufacturers of aesthetic perception that fail to acknowledge their intellectual, political, and moral authority rather than sponsoring intelligent, critical awareness, museums thus tend to foster appeasement. ref Haacke, p.280 ref See also Institutional Critique The Consciousness Industry On Literature, Politics and the Media Hans Magnus Enzensberger Hans Haacke References Reflist Enzensberger, H. 1. Patrons of Industry

The Grand Association of the Patrons of Industry in Ontario was a Canada Canadian farmers organization formed in 1890 that cooperated with the urban labour movement to address the political frustrations of both groups with big business. Based on the Patrons of Industry of Michigan that had formed in 1889, it declared itself independent of the American group in 1891. It was dedicated to upholding and encouraging the moral, social, intellectual, political and financial situation of rural Ontarians and to preserve the way of life that existed in farming communities in the late nineteenth century against encroaching industrialization. The Patrons membership exceeded 30,000 at its peak. ref http www.trentu.ca admin library archives 91 1009.htm Patrons of Industry Trent University Archives ref It nominated candidates in the Ontario general election, 1894 1894 Ontario provincial election . Sixteen members of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Legislative Assembly were elected with Patrons of Industry support 12 Ontario Liberal Party Liberals , one Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario Conservative , and three who ran only under the Patrons of Industry banner. The Patrons of Industry also nominated 31 candidates in the Canadian federal election, 1896 1896 federal election , but only two, David Dickson Rogers and William Varney Pettet , were elected to the Canadian House of Commons . The party was soon divided on the question of cooperation with the Ontario Liberal Party . The party achieved few gains for farmers, and the group was virtually extinct by 1900. It has been argued by some that the Patrons represented a constant left wing element in the Canadian Electorate, represented today by the New Democratic Party .
