His son, orkell m ni orsteinsson, inherited the office ca. 945 while at the same time being lawspeaker . He was succeeded by his son orm r orkelsson, who held office from 984 to 1020. His son, Hamall orm sson held office until 1055. Hamall had three sons, orm r, Torfi and M r but it is not known who of the three inherited the office and for the following century it is not known who held the office. about the Icelandic island the similarly named Scottish islands Papa, Scotland unreferenced date April 2012 Papey is an island near the east coast of Iceland in the municipality Dj pavogshreppur and is about convert 2 km2 sqmi 2 in extent, the highest point on the island being about 58 meters above sea level . The island was inhabited since the settlement of Iceland until the year 1966. There still are a lighthouse, a dwelling house, a church and a weather station on the island, the latter automised since 1998. There are also large colonies of atlantic puffin s on the island. Papey is said to be named after the monks called Papar and it is mentioned in the Landn mab k as one of two places where these monks lived. The story in Landn mab k is that as Ing lfr Arnarson and his followers had lived during the winter at Geithellar in lftafj r ur at a distance from Papey, some of his women followers climbed a mountain in the spring and saw smoke from the island. When they later got a closer look and found special items there, they understood that the smoke had to have been from Papar or quote Vestmen inhabitants. There are also some toponym s on the island except the island s name itself indicating Papar monks were living there. Archaeological survey s on the island and in the area surrounding Dj pavogshreppur Dj pavogur , especially between 1970 and 1980, did however not show any evidence of monks living there, but they found evidence of Norse settlements. Atli the Slender Old Norse Atli hinn Mjovi was a ninth century Norwegian Jarl title jarl mentioned in several Old Norse sources, including Heimskringla and Egils saga . Atli was the son of Hundolf, a jarl of Gaular in Fjordane . His sister was Solvor Hundolfsdottir , the wife of King Harald Goldbeard of Sogn . ref Landnamabok 5 8. ref He became friends with King Halfdan the Black of Vestfold and accompanied him on a number of his expeditions. In particular, Atli accompanied Halfdan when, following the death of Halfdan s father in law Harald Goldbeard and Halfdan s son Harald, the Vestfolder king led an expedition to take possession of Sogn as their heir.
