Fort Dunree lang ga An D n Riabhach , located on the west side of the Inishowen peninsula, Republic of Ireland Ireland , is a Napoleonic period fort. The fort is located on a rocky promontory accessed over a natural fissure. It was remodelled in 1895 to have 2 x 4.7 inch 119  mm QF guns below, and later 12 pounder 5  kg QF and 2 x 6 inch 152  mm guns in a battery above. The top of a hill overlooking the site was walled in to form a redoubt . The fort is now a military museum with detailed exhibitions, many restored guns, and a rotting military camp . There are also displays about the area birds, marine life and coastal vegetation. Other facilities include a gift shop, auditorium, caf and trail walks. Along with Carlingford Lough and Killary Harbour it is one of three known glacial fjords in Ireland. At the northern extremities of the lough are Fanad Head with its famous lighthouse and Dunaff Head. Towns situated on the lough include Buncrana on Inishowen and Rathmullan on the western side. At the southern end of the Lough lies Letterkenny . The lough is also famous for its wildlife watching dolphins, porpoise, sea birds, migratory geese and swans and diving on the numerous ship wrecks, including the SS Laurentic 1908 SS Laurentic sunk by a German mine possible torpedo , which went down with 3,211 ingots of gold of which 3,191 were recovered. In the south of the lough a number of islands Burt, Inch, Coney, Big Isle were polder ed and the land reclaimed during the 19th century for agriculture and the Lough Swilly to Derry City Railway embankments. These reclaimed lands are now regarded as one of Ireland s premier wetlands for wildlife conservation and birdwatching , supporting over 4,000 Whooper Swan s and thousands of Greenland white front, Barnacle Goose Barnacle , Greylagg and Brent Goose Brent geese. The farm is run by Tapbury Management Limited. Turbines Phase 1 of the farm has 16 gearless wind turbines, type Enercon E 70 2 MW with a 64 metre hub height and 71 metre rotor diameter giving a total capacity of 32 megawatts. Phase 2 of the farm which is an additional 6.9 MW from three Enercon E 70 2.3 MW turbines were installed in the autumn of 2007 . This makes Sorne Hill Wind Farm, at 38 MW the third largest wind farm in Ireland as of August 2008.
