    Original research date April 2011 Minimal Instruction Set Computer MISC is a Microprocessor processor architecture with a very small number of basic operations and corresponding opcode s. Such instruction set s are commonly stack based rather than register based to reduce the size of operand specifiers. Such a stack machine architecture is inherently simpler since all instructions operate on the top most stack entries. A result of this is a smaller instruction set, a smaller and faster instruction decode unit, and overall faster operation of individual instructions. The disadvantage is that instructions tend to have more sequential dependencies, reducing instruction level parallelism . MISC architectures have much in common with the Forth programming language and the Java Virtual Machine . Probably the most commercially successful MISC was the INMOS transputer .     Within the field of human computer interaction there has long been interest in developing adaptive automated instruction software to facilitate learning of application programs. This software would monitor a computer user s behavior while he or she uses the application program, and then provide optimized and personalized instruction to help the user become more skilled with the application. In a typical compiler, it precedes both instruction scheduling and register allocation , so its output IR has an infinite set of pseudoregisters and may still be subject to peephole optimization otherwise, it closely resembles the target machine code , bytecode , or assembly language . It works by covering the intermediate representation with as few tiles as possible. A tile is a template that matches a portion of the IR tree and can be implemented with a single target instruction. Approach A basic approach in instruction selection is to use some templates for translation of each instruction in an intermediate representation. In the mid 1950s, when assembly language programming was commonly used to write programs for digital computers , the use of macro instructions was initiated for two main purposes to reduce the amount of program coding that had to be written by generating several assembly language statements from one macro instruction and to enforce program writing standards, e.g. specifying input output commands in standard ways.
