  1. International Radon Project

The International Radon Project IRP is a World Health Organization initiative to reduce the lung cancer risk around the world. The IRP released their guidance to member countries in September 2009 http whqlibdoc.who.int publications 2009 9789241547673 eng.pdf . Exposure to radon in the home and workplace is one of the main risks of ionizing radiation causing tens of thousands of deaths from lung cancer each year globally. In order to reduce this burden it is important that national authorities have methods and tools based on solid scientific evidence and sound public health policy. The public needs to be aware of radon risks and the means to reduce and prevent these. In 1996 WHO published a report containing several conclusions and recommendations covering the scientific understanding of radon risk and the need for countries to take action in the areas of risk management and risk communication. Recent findings from case control studies on lung cancer and exposure to radon in homes completed in many countries allow for substantial improvement in risk estimates and for further consolidation of knowledge by pooling data from these studies. The consistency of the findings from the latest pooled analyses of case control studies from Europe and North America as well as China provides a strong argument for an international initiative to reduce indoor radon risks. To fulfill these goals, WHO has developed a program on public health aspects of radon exposure. This project enjoys high priority with WHO s Department of Public Health and Environment. The key elements of the International Radon Project include Estimation of the global burden of disease GBD associated with exposure to radon ... partner agencies from some 40 Member States. This network is the basis for the WHO International Radon Project which was launched in 2005. Working groups will collect and analyse information on radon risk, radon policies, radon mitigation and prevention as well as risk communication. The project members ...   more details

  1. International Greek New Testament Project

The International Greek New Testament Project IGNTP began in 1926 as a cooperative enterprise between United Kingdom British and Germany German scholars to establish a new critical edition of the New Testament . Early results of the work were critical apparatus of the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Mark produced by S. C. E. Legg in the 1930s. Wartime difficulties prevented cooperation during most of the 1940s, but the project was resurrected in 1949 as a cooperative endeavour between British and North American scholars. In the meantime German research was taken up by Kurt Aland and the Institute for New Testament Textual Research Institut f r neutestamentliche Textforschung in M nster . British and North American cooperation resulted in the publication of a critical apparatus for the Gospel of Luke in the 1980s. Current research focuses on the Gospel of John , and the surviving majuscule manuscripts have been published in print and electronic form. 1. North Korea International Documentation Project

Infobox organization image name NKIDP logo.jpg The North Korea International Documentation Project NKIDP is part of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars . It seeks to serve as an informational clearinghouse on North Korea for both the scholarly and policy making communities by widely disseminating newly declassified documents on the DPRK from its former communist allies as well as other resources that provide valuable insight into the actions and nature of the North Korean state. NKIDP believes that the efforts of contemporary scholars and policymakers are too often hampered by a distinct lack of knowledge about the North Korean leadership and political system. With no history of diplomatic relations with Pyongyang and severely limited access to the country s elite, it is difficult for Western policymakers, journalists, and academics to understand the forces and intentions behind North Korea s enigmatic actions. In cooperation with the University of North Korean Studies Seoul and an international network of researchers, the NKIDP provides access to both original and translated archival documents on the DPRK, publishes an NKIDP Working Paper series, regularly contributes to the Cold War International History Project CWIHP Bulletin series, and holds frequent conferences and workshops at the Wilson Center as well as throughout East Asia.
