ISRT provides a biopsychosocial model for bipolar disorder and recognizes that the illness cannot be fully treated with medication alone, although it is biologically based. It postulates that stressful events, disruptions in circadian rhythms and personal relationships, and conflicts arising out of difficulty in Conformity psychology social adjustment often lead to relapses. The idea was developed by Ellen Frank at the University of Pittsburgh who published a book on her theories Treating Bipolar Disorder, a Clinician s Guide Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy . 1. Interpersonal deception theory

Interpersonal deception theory IDT attempts to explain the manner in which individuals deal with actual or perceived deception on the conscious and subconscious levels while engaged in face to face communication. Communication is not static it is influenced not only by one s own goals, but also by the context of the interaction as it unfolds. The sender s conduct and messages are affected by conduct and messages of the receiver, and vice versa. Furthermore, deception differs from truthful communication. Intentional deception requires significantly more cognitive resources than truthful communication, whether the sender engages in falsification Lie lying , concealment omitting material facts , or equivocation skirting issues by changing the subject or offering indirect responses . Interpersonal Adaptation Theory IAT is sort of a theory of theories. Multiple theories attempt to describe certain interactions and parts of an interaction in great detail, while IAT, encompassing all of those other theories, makes predictions throughout the entire course of the interaction. For this reason, this theory is often referred to as the Interaction Adaptation Theory. It states that people begin an interaction with a combination of expectation epistemic expectations , requirements , and desire emotion desires . Background In 1995, Judee K. 1. Fundamental interpersonal relations orientation

Fundamental interpersonal relations orientation FIRO is a theory of interpersonal relations, introduced by William Schutz in 1958. This theory mainly explains the interpersonal underworld of a small group. The theory is based on the belief that when people get together in a group, there are three main interpersonal needs they are looking to obtain affection openness, control and inclusion. Schutz developed a measuring instrument that contains six scales of nine item questions that he called FIRO B. This technique was created to measure or control how group members feel when it comes to inclusion, control, and affection openness or to be able to get feedback from people in a group. Description These categories measure how much interaction a person wants in the areas of socializing, leadership and responsibilities, and more intimate personal relations. Element B former known as FIRO B was created, based on this theory, a measurement instrument with scales that assess the behavioral aspects of the three dimensions. Scores are graded from 0 9 in scales of expressed and wanted behavior, which define how much a person expresses to others, and how much he wants from others. Schutz believed that FIRO scores in themselves were not terminal, and can and do change, and did not encourage typology however, the four temperaments were eventually mapped to the Element B former known as FIRO B scales, which led to the creation of a theory of five temperaments . Schutz himself discussed the impact of extreme behavior in the areas of inclusion, control, and openess as indicated by scores on the Element B former FIRO B . For each area of interpersonal need the following three types of behavior would be evident 1 deficient, 2 excessive, and 3 ideal. 1. Basic interpersonal communicative skills

Refimprove date July 2007 Basic interpersonal communicative skills BICS are language skills needed to interact in social situations, for example, when speaking to a friend on the telephone. BICS refers primarily to context bound, face to face communication, like the language first learned by toddlers and preschoolers, which is used in everyday social interaction. We use this language skill in face to face interactions, rather than in dealing with academic tasks. This term is often credited to Jim Cummins professor Jim Cummins research related to language acquisition and learning. The other term that is often used in conjunction with this term is cognitive academic language proficiency CALP . CALP refers to the highly abstract, decontextualized communication that takes place in the classroom, especially in the later elementary grades. CALP involves the language of learning , which enables children to problem solve, hypothesize, imagine, reason and project into situations with which they have no personal experience. It is a prerequisite for learning to read and write and for overall academic success. The implications of the BICS and CALP concepts for children are that the second language or language of the classroom needs to be sufficiently well developed for her or him to be able to meet the cognitive demands of the academic setting. http www.hanen.org web Home AboutHanen NewsViews OneLanguageorTwo tabid 220 Default.aspx Students typically are thought to acquire BICS in 2 3 years but take 5 7 years to develop the CALP needed to be on the same level with their native speaking counterparts in the classroom. Although the terms BICS and CALP and still widely used, Cummins has more recently used the terms conversational language and academic language . ref Echevarria, Jana. 2007 .
