Harakat i Inqilab i Islami Islamic Revolution Movement was a traditionalist Mujahideen Afghan Mujahedeen Afghan mujahedeen group fighting against Soviet Union Soviet forces during the Soviet war in Afghanistan . Mohammad Nabi Mohammadi was the leader of the group. It operated Southern Afghan Provinces of Kandahar , Helmand Province Helmand , Uruzgan , Ghazni , Paktika , and Wardak . It was not as strong a group as Gulbuddin Hekmatyar s Hezb i Islami or Ahmed Shah Massoud s forces. The movement was part of the Peshawar Seven coalition of mujahedeen forces. During the 1990s the group fell into decay. Most of its cadres later defected to the Taliban , including the spiritual leader of the Taliban Mohammed Omar . Amadu s Jihad was a religious war or jihad fought from 1810 to 1818 in what is now the Mopti Region of Mali . Seku Amadu 1775 1844 , a Fula people Fula ni Muslim leader in West Africa , overthrew the ruling Fulani dynasty of the Macina region of what is now Mali and created a new theocratic state with its capital at Hamdallahi . Amadu was probably influenced by the teachings of the Islamic reformer Usman dan Fodio and his jihad in neighboring Hausa people Hausaland . Initially, Amadu established an independent Muslim community where he gave expression to his fundamentalist Islamic views and preached in favor of a jihad of his own. Amadu s views brought him into conflict with his local, pagan Fulani chief, who called for help from his suzerain, the Bambara people Bambara king of Segu . The result was a general uprising under Amadou that established the Massina Empire , a theocratic Muslim Fulani state throughout the Inner Niger Delta region and extending to both the ancient Muslim centers of Djenn and Tombouctou . Amadu s jihad was probably continuous from 1810 through 1818. However, some sources suggest two events, one in 1810 and another in 1818. One estimate suggests a total of 10,000 deaths resulting from this jihad. The rule of Amadou s family continued under his successors, Amadu Seku and Amadu Amadu , until the latter was captured and executed by Umar Tall al Hajj Umar s Toucouleur army in 1862. Harmon about the Soviet war in Afghanistan as seen through the eyes of Haji Latif , The Lion of Kandahar , and his group of Islamic holy warriors. Harmon made six illegal, clandestine trips into Afghanistan in order to film the Mujahideen in Kandahar and other provinces. When Harmon and his cameraman, Alexander Lindsay, were with Haji Latif s fighter, the Soviet and Afghan forces found out about and launched an unsuccessful operation to stop the making of the film, resulting in the deaths of 27 mujahideen. The film won the Royal Television Society Journalism Award, the ACE Award, the Blue Ribbon at the American Film and Video Festival, and CINE s Golden Eagle. His film was a Duce Films International Ltd. Production for the BBC and National Geographic Explorer . It runs 52 mins.
