They should also pray for those who live in hate and discord , so that with divine assistance better and more peaceful times may descend over Hungary. The Pope is alarmed over the jailing and torturing of Cardinal Joseph Mindszenty, a violation of human rights and dignity, and an affront against religion itself. Not only the Catholics in Hungary , decent people all over he world watch in horror. The Cardinal stood up for the freedom of he Church and the Hungarian people, and therefore all accusations are highly honourable. The Holy Father takes part in the continued suffering of the Hungarian bishops. ref Acerrimo Moerore 3 ref Freedom is so important, that it may be necessary to sacrifice one s life. The Pope is quite aware of the great tribulations and sufferings, which the Church has to endure in Hungary. But he is also aware of the great loyalty and strength of its bishops, who are asked to combine courage with wisdom in this situation. He appeals to them to be united. He reminds them, that heir forefathers overcame similar problems. They knew that the Christian faith can be maligned and attacked, but never defeated. ref Acerrimo Moerore 5 ref He appeals to them, to follow their examples. They will find the most wonderful consolation and help the consolation to work for the peace and kingdom of Christ. His kingdom is not of this world, because of the mandate, to change behaviour and life, in order to reach through this earthly misery the heavenly kingdom. Laetamur Admodum issued November 1, 1956, is an encyclical of Pope Pius XII renewing his request for prayer s for peace for Poland , Hungary , and the Middle East . The Pope Holy Father is most pleased to learn that the Catholic World responded with generosity and enthusiasm to his request for public prayers. And so seems that maybe a new dawn of peace based on justice seems to be breaking at long last for the people of Poland and Hungary . He was happy to learn, that Cardinals Stefan Wyszynski and Joseph Mindszenty , Archbishop of Esztergom , who had both been expelled from their Sees, have been restored to their positions, and were warmly welcomed by their faithful. ref Laetamur Admodum 2 ref He asks all the Catholics of those countries to unite themselves with their shepherds. Casa di Santo Stefano or Szent Istv n H z is the Hungarian people Hungarian pilgrim s hostel in Rome , located in Via del Casaletto 481. The first Hungarian pilgrim s hostel in Rome was established by King Stephen I of Hungary next to the church of Santo Stefano degli Ungheresi in Vatican City Vatican . The hostel received travelers from the Kingdom of Hungary through 700 years. It was pulled down by Pope Pius VI in 1776 when he built a new sacristy for the St Peter s Basilica . The Pope gave 7,500 Italian scudo scudo s as a compensation for the Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum but the institution haven t built a new hostel from the money. Only in the 20th century was the old pilgrim s hostel of St. Stephen re established by Catholic emigrants who left the country after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution . One of them, Erzs bet F y became the nurse of a wealthy English gentleman, Lord Oliver Duncan and inherited his fortune. Erzs bet F y made contact with J zsef Z gon , the Regent of the Hungarian Papal Institute and leader of the Hungarian emigrant community in Rome. She made a donation for a new pilgrim s hostel but the emigrants should have bought a proper building plot. In 1965 J zsef Z gon bought a parcel in the Gianicolense district of Rome from a lawyer named Pasini for 120 million liras. That time Via del Casaletto was a rural neighbourhood with pastures and reeds but in the next decades it became a suburb of the growing city. Hungarian university students who went into exile after 1956 gave 16 million liras for buying the lot. The remaining part of the sum was donated by Hungarians living in the United States and Switzerland . The modern hostel was inaugurated on 20 August 1967. It is the property of the St. Stephen Foundation but run by the Congregatio Sororum Scholarum de Kalocsa Kalocsai Iskolan v rek , a Hungarian religious order for women. Dum Maerenti Animo, June 29, 1956 an Apostolic Letter of Pope Pius XII to the faithful in Eastern Europe regarding their persecution s and the persecutions of the Church. The whole family of Christianity stands in respectful admiration before you, and what you suffer in silence for so long. She prays for God s mercy. She prays also for those who persecute you ref see below ref Pope Pius XII describes a decade of the most terrible and saddest persecutions in these regions. The Church has lost its freedom, Church associations and religious institutes were closed, bishops cannot operate, or worse, they are jailed or exiled. Both, the Catholic faithful of the Latin and Oriental rites are suffering, but the Eastern Church has been forced to disband or unite with the Russian Orthodox Church . All Eastern cardinals, J zsef Mindszenty , Aloysius Stepinac and Stefan Wyszy ski are persecuted and jailed for their faith. ref Dum Maerenti Animo, 4, 6 ref The apostolic letter reminds of the 500th anniversary of the Turkish bell a prayer crusade ordered by his predecessors against the dangers from the East. He asks the faithful throughout the world, to pray for the persecuted Church in the East during the mid day Angelus . The letter mentions that some Christians loose courage. Others argue, that the teachings of Christ should be updated, to fit their new realities. Pius calls this the wrong kind of reconciliation. Heaven and earth will disappear before His Word disappears. The Pope encourages to endure the tribulations, even if no contact with him or Church officials are possible. He assures the faithful in Eastern Europe, that all Christianity is full of admiration and united with them in prayer. Finally, he asks them to pray with him for those who persecute them. ref name Dum Maerenti Animo, 17 Dum Maerenti Animo, 17 ref Quotations Daily we implore God s powerful support, to strengthen your faith, to reduce your anxieties, to comfort you with heavenly graces. Anti Bolshevik Bloc of Nations A.B.N. was a co ordinating center for anti Communist migr political organizations from Soviet and other socialist countries. The A.B.N. formation dates back to an underground conference of representatives of non Russians Russian peoples that took place on November 1943, near Zhytomyr on the initiative of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists . During the conference, a platform of joint revolutionary struggle against what the participants called Russian communism was formulated.
