The Horace Hearne Jr. Institute for Theoretical Physics is at Louisiana State University . The Hearne Institute is funded by a donation of two endowed chairs by Horace Hearne Jr. and the State of Louisiana, as well as additional grants from a variety of national and international granting agencies. A. JackThomas was a Baltimore area Conductor music conductor , hired to work with the city s municipal music performance groups. He had also been one of the first African American bandleaders in the Army, and was director of the music department at Morgan College . He also founded the Aeolian Institute for higher music education in Baltimore. Thomas later became the first African American to conduct the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra .
