He was born at Gainsborough, Lincolnshire , the younger brother of Thomas Mozley , and was educated at Oueen Elizabeth s Grammar School now Queen Elizabeth s High School Queen Elizabeth s High School, Gainsborough and later Oriel College, Oxford . Mozley was elected to a fellowship at Magdalen College, Oxford Magdalen in 1840. He took an active part in the Oxford Movement . He said he could no more follow John Henry Newman , his brother in law, into the Roman communion than fly. He was joint editor of the Christian Remembrancer . He withdrew from the position because of his substantial agreement with the famous Gorham decision . Mozley was one of the earliest supporters of The Guardian Anglican newspaper The Guardian , the High Church weekly. Lofting in bowling is when a bowler throws a bowling ball more than a short distance down the lane. This is usually done with the bounce pass technique, but can also be done with a straight ball. Lofting is looked down upon by the bowling community and bowling alley employees because of the damage to the ball and lanes. Many bowling alleys that use wood for their lanes will either have signs that tell the bowlers not to loft, or an employee will tell the bowlers not to do so. Lofting the ball before the arrows in some bowling alleys is not against the rules. Some professional bowlers do loft a considerable amount under certain lane conditions. Cranker s and other high rev players may be forced to loft under dry conditions in order to delay the ball s reaction and prevent it from overhooking. Lofting over the gutter is known as popping the cap and is done when a bowler hooks the whole lane. Duckpins are shorter and squatter than standard tenpins. Sport Bowling , an alternative to traditional bowling leagues, offers players the opportunity to bowl on exactly the same lane conditions and oil patterns that professional bowlers face on the PBA Tour . Sport Bowling was created by the United States Bowling Congress , the governing body of the sport of bowling. Sport Bowling leagues, known as http www.pbaexperience.org PBA Experience Leagues , are offered in conjunction with the Professional Bowlers Association . The difference in sport bowling versus traditional bowling leagues is in the way the oil pattern is laid down on the bowling lane. In a traditional pattern, the majority of the oil is applied to the center of the lane. The outsides are left dry which creates more friction and hook. The oil in the center of the lane creates hold. Therefore, a typical house pattern is very wide open and it is easy to get to the pocket. Sport bowling incorporates five unique oil patterns, each with its own conditions and playing styles. The Chameleon oil pattern Chameleon is a 39 foot, strip style pattern that challenges players to adjust their game and attack from different angles in order to score well. The Cheetah, at 35 feet, is the shortest of the PBA patterns. Cheetah plays extremely close to the channel and requires a smooth reaction off the break point. The 41 foot Scorpion, with a larger volume of oil down the lane, tends to play in the track and calls for straight angles with an aggressive ball. The longest and possibly most difficult pattern is the Shark. At 43 feet, the key to success is slower ball speed, keeping the break point as close to the head pin as possible.
