Ho rskool JanvanRiebeeck English JanvanRiebeeck High School is an Afrikaans high school in Cape Town , South Africa . It was founded in 1926 by J.J. Jordaan. The school is situated at the foot of Table Mountain right next to the historical Welgemeend in Cape Town. The school has an enrolment of approximately 600 pupils, who are divided into three houses Reijger, Dromedaris and De Goede Hoop, named after the three ships that JanvanRiebeeck landed in Cape Town in 1652. Maria vanRiebeeck 28 October 1629 2 November 1664 was the spouse of JanvanRiebeeck , the Netherlands Dutch colonial administrator and first commander of the settlement at the History of Cape Colony Cape . She was born Maria de la Quellerie , daughter of Abraham de la Quellerie 1589 1630 and Maria du Bois 1593 ? from France . She married VanRiebeeck on 28 March 1649 in Schiedam , Netherlands . The couple had eight children, of whom most died young. The couple arrived to the later Cape Town in South Africa in 1652. The first period, they lived in a tent. Maria acted as the hostess to guests, is said to have entertained with a claviacord, and was described as diplomatically gifted in the company of foreigners. She was from 1658 active as a money lender to the colonists, and used a slave girl as an interpeter to communicate with the native population. She is described as very well respected and liked in the colony. She died in Malacca , Malaysia , on 2 November 1664 at the age of 35. She has been referred to as the ancestral mother of the white Afrikaners in 1952, a statue was erected to her. The South African Navy submarine , the SAS Spear SAS Maria vanRiebeeck , was named after her. In his youth, various sicknesses impeded him in the progress of his studies. Around 1686 7, he travelled to Germany and Florence , where the fame of his father s merit procured him a most honourable reception from Cosimo III de Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany . He then proceeded to Rome, where his abilities were already well known, and his works exceedingly coveted. In that city his condition worsened, but he continued to work for as long as he could. Janvan Dornicke was a South Netherlandish painter who was born about 1470 and died about 1527. His first name is sometimes spelled Janssone , and his last name is sometimes spelled van Doornik or van Dornick . He was active in Antwerp from about 1509 to about 1525. His paintings are classified stylistically as Antwerp Mannerism , and he may be the same person as the Master of 1518 . This Janvan Dornicke should not be confused with an eighteenth century Dutch artist who had the same name.
