Image jeandb.jpg right thumb Jean Baptiste dela Barri re IPA fr d la ba j 1554 1600 was a religious figure. He was the commendatory abbot of Les Feuillants Abbey at the age of 19, and founder of the reformed Cistercian order that arose there, the Congregation of the Feuillants Feuillants . During his life he became a spiritual adviser to King Henry III of France . During 1587 Henry III built a monastery for the Feuillants to commemorate his friendship with Jean. Jean lived a patient, compassionate life and adopted routines such as sleeping on the floor with a stone pillow and eating without tables. Jean did not eat fish or eggs, nor did he allow his followers to do so. The Feuillants used herbs for sacred rituals. A couple of Jean s followers attempted to assassinate him via poison, but he survived. After the assassination of Henri III, Jeandela Barri re was forced into lay communion by the church. However, this did not last long. With the help of his friend Countess Catherine Nobili Sforza, he was reinstated. Jean died soon after in the arms of his friend Cardinal Arnaud d Ossat during the year 1600. After his death Jean s heart was kept and preserved by the church. He received the first degree of Sanctity from the Roman Catholic church and was given the title of Venerable. Persondata Metadata see Wikipedia Persondata . Image Jeandela Taille.jpg He studied the humanities in Paris under Muretus , and law at Orl ans under Anne de Bourg . He began his career as a Huguenot , but afterwards adopted a mild Catholicism . He was wounded at the Battle of Arnay le Duc in 1570, and retired to his estate at Bondaroy, where he wrote a political pamphlet entitled Histoire abr g e des singeries dela ligue . His chief poem is a satire on the follies of court life, Le Courtisan retir he also wrote a political poem, Le Prince N cessaire . But his fame rests on his achievements in drama. In 1572 appeared the tragedy of Sa l le furieux , with a preface on L Art dela trag die . He wrote, not for the general public to which the mysteries and farces had addressed themselves, but for the limited audience of a lettered aristocracy . He therefore depreciated the native drama and insisted on the Senecan model. He objected to deaths on the stage on the ground that the representation is unconvincing.
