According to Meier, Isa Rashid kept the manuscript and sent him the translation in 1974. The first edition in German came out in 1978. Of the more notable Rabbis of this group was R Yechiel of Paris, the main orator for the Jewish representatives, as well as Rabbi Moses of Coucy the SMaG . The trials were conducted on the request of Nicholas Donin, a Jewish Apostate. Jeremy Cohen provides an analyzes Donin s arguments in his work, The Condemnation of the Talmud. Cohen states that Donin s claims are ignited by the fact that the Jews were no longer upholding their Augustinian responsibility of upholding and protecting the Old Testament to serve as witnesses to the truth of Christianity. Donin claims this has become the case since the Jews only cling to the Talmud, something that has become an alius lex other law to them. Donin provides a secondary argument to this lack of preservation by stating that the Rabbis are continually changing the Bible through their Talmudic interpretation, and once again proving to the Christian audience that the Jews no longer perform their designated role, and hence should have their protection removed. Eras of the Halakha Ulla or Ulla was a Jew ish Talmud ist and one of the leading halakha Halakhic amoraim in the Land of Israel during the latter part of the third and in the beginning of the fourth centuries CE the second and third amoraic generations . In his youth he studied under R. Eleazar II . Tos. to ul. 34a, s.v. Man abraya and he transmitted nine of his teacher s halakhic sayings, seven of which are contained in Bava Kamma 11, one in Eruvin 21b, and one in Ketubot tractate 74a. He was greatly respected for his learning and during his visits to Babylonia he seems to have been invited frequently by the Resh Galuta to deliver halakic lectures Ket. 65b id. 31a Shabbat tractate 157b . He traveled repeatedly to the Talmudic Academies in Babylonia and on one of his journeys he was in danger of assassination by one of his companions, saving his life only by condoning the murder of another Nedarim 22a . Ulla rendered important decisions regarding the benedictions and the calculation of the Rosh Hodesh new moon , and was accustomed to promulgate his rulings in Babylonia when he went thither Ber. 38b R. H. 22b Pes. 53b, 104b . He was very strict in his interpretation of religious laws Shab. 147a, 157b and on one occasion, when he heard R. Huna use an expression which he did not approve, he retorted, As vinegar to the teeth , and as smoke to the human eyes eyes , so are the words of R. First fruits is the eleventh tractate of Zeraim Seder Zeraim Order of Seeds of the Mishnah and of the Talmud . All versions of the Mishnah contain the first three chapters, and some versions contain a fourth. The three chapters found in all versions primarily discuss the commandment to bring the first fruits found in Deuteronomy chapter 26, verses 1 11 and to make a declaration upon bringing it. As is common in the Mishnah, related matters are also discussed. The first chapter discusses who has the responsibility to bring the first fruits and make the declaration, who needs to bring the first fruits but not make the declaration, and who can not bring the first fruits. Among those who bring the first fruits but don t make the declaration are Conversion to Judaism converts , so other halakah regarding differences between the obligations of converts and those born Jewish are also discussed here. This difference for converts was disagreed with by Judah HaNasi Rabbi Judah HaNasi and later Maimonides , and it is their position that has become the practice of the Jewish community. The second chapter compares the Terumah , Maaser and Bikkurim tithes and offerings, and makes other legal comparisons.
