    Other persons Edward Jessup December 24, 1735 February 3, 1816 was a soldier, judge and political figure in Upper Canada . He was born in Stamford, Connecticut in 1735 and moved with his family to Dutchess County, New York in 1744. In 1759, he served with Jeffery Amherst in the Lake Champlain region. In 1764, he moved with his brother Ebenezer to Albany, New York where they established a community known as Jessup s Landing on the Hudson River . He was a recipient of a large land grant from the Crown in the Adirondacks of about convert 500000 acre km2 . American Revolution In 1776, with other Loyalist American Revolution loyalists from this area, they joined Sir Sir John Johnson, 2nd Baronet John Johnson s regiment, later forming their own corps, known as the King s Loyal Americans. He also wrote under the name of Richard Telfair. Biography Jessup was raised in a series of orphanage s in Georgia until he left at 16 to join the United States Merchant Marine . He was a merchant seaman and junior officer for 11 years during which time he said he read a book every day. He was born in Albany, New York in 1766, the son of Edward Jessup , a United Empire Loyalist . He served with his father s Loyal Rangers , becoming a captain. After the American Revolution , he settled in Augusta, Ontario Augusta Township . Jessup represented Grenville County, Ontario Grenville in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1797 to 1800. In 1800, he was named justice of the peace in the Johnstown District, Upper Canada Johnstown District . He became lieutenant colonel in the Leeds County, Ontario Leeds militia in 1809. With his father, he laid out the town of Prescott, Ontario Prescott in 1810. He died at Prescott, Ontario Prescott in 1815.
