He was the brother of many siblings in a family of preachers, and was adopted in 1786 as candidate for the preacher office in the Prince elector Electorate of Electoral Palatinate Palatinate . He visited the college in Heidelberg from 1789 to 1794 and also worked as extraordinary professor of philology since 1791. In 1794 he started to practise as priest, first in Boxberg , then in Leimen Baden Leimen 1799 and Heidelberg 1808 in the parishes St. Peter and Heiliggeist. Beginning in 1807 he was member of the Grand Ducal Higher Clergy Council of Baden. In 1819 he was appointed professor of practical theology at the University of Heidelberg , where he also acquired his doctorate in theology. Only few written works exist of Abegg, as he always saw his duty more in the application of his studies than in the theory. Biography He was the son of Johann Georg Cotta, who was in turn the son of Johann Georg Cotta, the founder of the publishing house J. G. Cotta. After studying theology at the University of T bingen , Johann Friedrich began his public career as lecturer at the University of Jena . He then traveled through Germany, France and Holland , and, after residing several years in London , became professor at T bingen in 1733. In 1736, he moved to the University of G ttingen to become the chair of theology there. George II of England , in his capacity as elector of Hanover , had founded the university at G ttingen two years before. In 1739, however, Cotta returned, as extraordinary professor of theology, to his Alma Mater , T bingen, and, after successively filling the chairs of history , poetry and Eloquence oratory , was appointed ordinary professor of theology there in 1741. He died as Chancellor education chancellor of T bingen. His learning was at once wide and accurate his theological views were orthodox, although he did not believe in strict verbal inspiration.   1. Johann Friedrich Weitsch

    Johann Friedrich Weitsch , called Pacha Weitsch , from his fancy for Oriental costumes, was born at Hessendamm , near Wolfenb ttel , in 1723. He was the son of a house tiler, but from his youth had a bent towards art. Having become a sergeant in the army, his colonel once called upon him to copy a few landscape painting landscapes , which, though his first attempts at painting, were so successful that he thenceforth devoted himself exclusively to art. He copied pictures in the gallery at Salzdahlen , and was then appointed to a post in the porcelain factory at F rstenberg China Furstenberg . He pursued oil painting at the same time, and studied from nature and the old Netherlands Dutch masters. His works were at first small landscapes and views of towns, but later on he took to woody scenes, and especially oak forests with cattle. In 1788 he became inspector of the Salzdahlen gallery, and died in that place in 1803. Four landscapes by him are in the gallery at Braunschweig Brunswick . After receiving his medical degree from the University of Zurich in 1854, he continued his studies in Vienna where he learned ophthalmoscopy from Eduard J ger von Jaxtthal 1818 1884 , and in Berlin , where he served as an assistant to ophthalmologist Albrecht von Graefe 1828 1870 . It was during this time that Horner decided to become an ophthalmologist himself. He returned to Zurich in 1856, and later opened his own eye clinic named Hottinghof . Horner became a full professor of ophthalmology in 1873. After his death in 1886, his position at the University of Zurich was filled by Otto Haab 1850 1931 . Horner s syndrome , a disorder of the sympathetic nervous system , was named after him following his description of the condition in 1869. Biography He studied law, and began his law practice in Dresden in 1793. In 1814, he abandoned his law practice to devote himself exclusively to literary work. He was a very industrious writer in many fields of literature, in all of which he was popular in his day with a large class of readers. With Winkler, he edited the Abendzeitung from 1817 to 1826. Biography He studied medicine first at University of Jena Jena and afterward at University of Halle Halle , where he took the degree of doctor in 1731. He was appointed in 1740 professor of chemistry , pharmacy , and materia medica at the university of Frankfurt an der Oder, and shortly afterward to the chair of anatomy and botany . Still later he was named professor of pathology and therapeutics . He was also appointed rector of the university, and continued to hold his appointments till his death. He was made member of the academy of sciences, Berlin , in 1758. His chief merit consists in having introduced the method of submitting the various substances of materia medica to a strict ordeal of chemical analysis. He analyzed a great number of plants and other substances, and gave an exact account of the elements which enter into their composition. Rellstab was a very influential figure in Music in Berlin Berlin s musical life . In his youth he studied keyboard with Johann Friedrich Agricola and composition with Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch . He planned to continue his education with Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach in Hamburg, when in 1779 he had to take over the printing business of his father. Given his interest in music, Rellstab changed the focus of the business towards music and added a music lending library in 1783 and a music publishing branch to the firm ca. 1785 . Later on, Rellstab also made instruments and sold other music supplies.
