Born in Weimar , he attended the Thomasschule in Leipzig , his father providing for his musical formation. In contrast to his elder brothers Wilhelm Friedemann Bach Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Carl Philipp Emanuel he did not get the opportunity to study at the university after finishing school. Instead, he competed for a post as musician. JohannGottfried Bernhard first served as organist at the Marienkirche in M hlhausen in 1735 and, after leaving the town charged with debts, managed with the support of his father to find a new engagement as organist at the Jakobikirche in Sangerhausen . In 1738, he secretly abandoned a career in music in order to study law in Jena . There he died prematurely at the age of twenty four. Whether Gottfried Bernhard was also a composer as his brothers were is unknown. Education and Ministry Johann Scheibel was born in Wroc aw Breslau , Silesia , and studied at the Martin Luther University of Halle Wittenberg University of Halle from 1801 to 1804. He went on from there to be the assistant minister at St. Elisabeth s Church, Wroc aw St Elisabeth s church in Breslau from 1804 to 1818. He was theological until 1830 when he was suspended from his post. Scheibel came to prominence as a leader of the Old Lutherans in the dissent against the Prussian Union Evangelical Christian Church Prussian Union . He spoke, preached and wrote against the Union, which consequently resulted in the suspension from his post as theological professor. Undaunted, Scheibel continued in his dissent as he moved to new cities. He was at Dresden in 1832 where he was ordered to leave that same year. Then Hermsdorf until 1836 where likewise he was asked to leave, then Glauchau and Nuremberg. He died at Nuremberg about the time that he was being restored to his post as professor at Breslau. He was the son of ecclesiastic Ludwig Gotthard Kosegarten 1758 1818 . He studied theology and philosophy at the University of Greifswald , and from 1812 studied Oriental languages in Paris . In 1815 he became an adjunct to the theological and philosophical faculty in Greifswald . From 1817 to 1824 he was a professor of Oriental languages at the University of Jena , and afterwards a professor at Greifswald. Kosegarten is remembered for translation and edition of Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit poems, songs, fables, et al. Among his better known work involved the Arab song collection Kitab al Aghani 1846 , the Hindu poem Nala 1820 , the Persian fairy tale collection Tuti Nameh 1822 and the Indian fable collection Pantscha Tantra 1848 . He was also a specialist at deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics . In 1856 57 Kosegarten wrote a two volume work on the history of the University of Greifswald called Geschichte der Universit t Greifswald . Steffan s studio became the center of the Swiss artists in Munich.
