The Burgrave of Toru Thorn Toru by 1703, he was the town s burgomaster and the curator of the municipal Thorn Gymnasium by 1706. As were most other leading citizens, he was of the Lutheranism Lutheran faith. Following the Tumult of Thorn between Roman Catholic Church Catholics and Lutherans in the summer of 1724, Roesner was sentenced to death for neglecting his duty and countenancing tumult by the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth Polish supreme court in Warsaw . The Herder Prize , established in 1963 and named for JohannGottfried von Herder , was a prestigious international prize dedicated to the promotion of scientific, art and literature relations, and presented to scholars and artists from Central Europe Central and Southeastern Europe whose life and work have improved the cultural understanding of European countries and their peaceful interrelations. The jury was composed of German and Austrian universities. Financing for the Herder Award which amounted to 15,000 was ensured by the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S. Alfred T pfer Foundation in Hamburg . The awards were traditionally presented at the University of Vienna each year and handed over by the President of Austria . It was also possible to make a nomination for a one year Herder scholarship 900 1000 monthly at an Austrian university. In 2007, the Herder Prize merged with another fund creating a new European culture prize worth 75,000 and designed to encourage young European artists. Bartholom us Herder was born 22 August 1774 in the Swabia n free town of Rottweil , died at Freiburg im Breisgau, 11 March 1839. He was the founder of the publishing firm, Verlag Herder . Early life and education Originally destined for Holy orders, he was elaborating, while yet a student at the abbey school of St. Blasien and at the University of Dillingen , his plan of gaining his livelihood by the dissemination of good books as a scholarly publisher . Career In 1801, during the turbulent period prior to the dissolution of the old German Empire, he began his career, at the instance of the Prince Bishop soon afterwards Prince Primate Karl Theodor von Dalberg , in the capacity of publisher to the Bishopric of Constance princely episcopal court of Constance , at Meersburg on the Lake of Constance , the episcopal residence and seat of a seminary.
