JohannHeinrich Acker 12 August 1647 &ndash 21 September 1719 was a Germany German writer . He sometimes wrote under the name of Melissander . He was taught in his native city of Naumburg and at the regional school of Pforta Schulpforta . Beginning in 1669, he studied in Jena where he became magister and adjunct of the philosophical faculty. In 1673 he became adjunct and pastor in Hausen near Gotha, and in 1689 he became superintendent and court chaplain in Blankenhain . He studied history and theology at the Universities of University of Zurich Zurich , University of Jena Jena , University of Halle Halle and University of Berlin Berlin , earning his doctorate in 1836 at Jena . In 1839 he received his habilitation at University of Basel Basel , where he was a lecturer of literary history . In 1844 to 1851 he was chair of history at Humboldt University of Berlin Humboldt University , and during this time period was also an advisor to Frederick William IV of Prussia . In 1851 he returned to Basel , where he edited the Protestantischen Monatsbl tter f r innere Zeitgeschichte . In 1856 57 he worked as a mediator between Prussia and Switzerland concerning the Neuenburger Handel Neuch tel affair . Later he was an advisor to Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden . In 1886 Gelzer was awarded an honorary professorship from the University of Jena .
