Kaspar F rster also Caspar Foerster baptized February 28, 1616, Danzig died February 2, 1673, Oliva , near Danzig was a German singer and composer. F rster studied music under his father Kaspar 1574 1652 and then under Marco Scacchi in Warsaw . He sang bass and conducted choirs at the Poland Polish court in Warsaw from 1638 to about 1643, then served as kapellmeister to Frederik III of Denmark in Copenhagen between 1652 55. In 1655, a war broke out between Denmark and Sweden , and F rster returned to Danzig, working as Cantor church cantor at the Marienkirche there. He returned to the employ of Frederik from 1661 67. During this time he visited Venice several times and played a role in bringing aspects of Italian musical style to northern Europe. He also studied under Giacomo Carissimi in the 1660s. Late in his life he worked briefly in Hamburg before returning to his birthplace. F rster s surviving works are mostly sacred cantata s for three voices, with two violins and Figured bass continuo . Some 35 survive, and they often contain very low and difficult bass parts. His other works include wrote two oratorio s, six trio sonata s, and four secular cantata s. References Kaspar F rster . In 1899, the Redemptorists opened a new seminary in Gars. Father Kaspar was transferred there as director. He was 28 years old. Image Zytglogge Bern MakersNameplate.jpg thumb Brunner s nameplate on the Zytglogge clockwork. Kaspar Brunner died 1561 was a Switzerland Swiss mechanic best known for his construction of the clockwork of the Zytglogge , Bern s medieval clock tower, in 1527 30. Of unknown origins, Brunner is first recorded in 1526 on the occasion of being appointed zitgloggenrichter , or timekeeper of the Zytglogge. After the previous clockwork broke down beyond repair, the city council commissioned Brunner in 1527 to build a new one for the sum of 1.000 gulden dn date September 2011 . In the following three years, Brunner built the massive mechanism that continues to operate the tower s astronomical clock to this day. After the successful installation of his clockwork, Brunner appears to have risen fast in Bernese society. He was admitted into the Gesellschaft zu Schmieden , the blacksmiths guild, in 1530, thus fulfilling the prerequisite for holding public office. He was elected B chsenmeister or arsenal chief in 1537 and married a patrician s daughter, Anna von Graffenried, in 1541. In the same year, he was called to Nuremberg , then the Holy Roman Empire s largest city, where he headed the urban arsenal until his death in 1561. As far as we know, Brunner never built another clockwork. Having worked as locksmith , blacksmith , engineer , gunsmith and clockmaker at various times during his life, Brunner is a characteristic representative of the type of mostly self taught engineers that emerged at the threshold of the Early modern Europe early modern period in Europe and who built most late medieval clockworks. Kaspar Glatz died 1551 was a minor figure in Protestant Reformation reformation era Lutheranism. Trained in the early days of the reformation by Martin Luther at Wittenberg , he served as a pastor in the new movement for more than 20 years. The most comprehensive biographical sketch is contained in the late nineteenth century Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie . ref Glatz, Kaspar in Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie Ed. R. V. Liliencron 56 vols. Leipzig Duncker & Humbolt, 1875 1912 , 9 220 21. ref Early life Glatz came from Rieden in the Ausburg diocese, but it is unclear precisely which place this indicates. He arrived in Wittenberg in 1523, at which point it is said that he was not a young man. As he lived another 28 years, as he was a potential suitor of the mid twenties Katharina von Bora , and as he is known to have later married and fathered children, we should probably not make him too old.
