Early life After his early years he attended high school and then studied law at the Karlsschule Stuttgart Karlsschule in Stuttgart. After completing his studies, earning his living, first as secretary for the princely office in Upper Alerheim . The Napoleonic conquests brought great misery and destitution to the hometown of Klein. In 1799, he travelled by ship to the Vienna, where he spent the rest of his life. The progressive conditions in Austria under Emperor Joseph II may have attracted him. Little is known about the first four years in Vienna. What is known is that he lived in very poor economic conditions, as a tutor to the son of Count of Valais Wallis . Volunteering, he was drafted as a district director for the poor, and so had to deal with many blind people, who made up a large proportion of the poor. Career On 13 May 1804 Klein began to teach a young blind man, James Brown, at home, with government support. Thus arose the first blind institute in Germany. JohannWilhelm Drese bapt. 8 July 1677 bur. 25 June 1745 was a German composer, son of Johann Samuel Drese , whom JohannWilhelm succeeded as Kapellmeister at Weimar during the time J.S. H ssler was born in Erfurt, Germany. He first studied under his uncle Johann Christian Kittel, who was an organist at Erfurt . His first post was as organist of the local Barfilsserkirche in around 1762. His father died in 1769 and from then on he also managed the family fur business, though he still managed concert tours of Germany in the early 1770s, then in other places in Europe in the 1780s and 1790s. On 15 April 1789 he entered an organ competition with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Dresden during Mozart s Berlin journey . On these tours he also came into contact with Johann Nikolaus Forkel , Johann Adam Hiller , Franz Benda , and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach . He spent 1790 to 1792 in London and then moved to Saint Petersburg before settling in Moscow in 1794, where he worked as a prominent music teacher and composer. He remained there until his death. Works His publications include many keyboard works, including sonatas, fantasies, preludes, and his best known piano work, the Grand Gigue in D minor, Op. 31 as well as a Grand Concert , Op. 50, a cantata, chamber works and songs. One of the most unusual of H ssler s compositions is a cycle of 360 preludes in all keys Op. 47, written in 1817. JohannWilhelm Petersen grew up in L beck and studied theology at the Katharineum in L beck , as well as in Giessen , Rostock , Leipzig , Wittenberg and Jena . He studied with Philipp Jakob Spener in Frankfurt , and they became friends in 1675. Through his affiliation with Spener, Petersen became interested in Pietism .
