He also served on the state vocations board. He came to Congress on the coattails of Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964 when the Democrats gained a net of 36 seats. He was defeated for reelection to the United States Congress in 1966 by William A. Steiger and also defeated in his run for the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1970. He was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and graduated from Fond du Lac High School and attended the University of Wisconsin&ndash Madison School for Workers. Race was in the machine tool industry, and was involved in the labor union , serving as chairman of the bargaining and grievance committee of Local Lodge 1420 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers . He was heavily involved with local units of the Democratic Party United States Democratic Party . He died in Fond du Lac and is interred at the Estabrooks Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Abner Coburn March 22, 1803 January 4, 1885 was the List of Governors of Maine 30th Governor of Maine Governor of Maine from 1863 to 1864 and a prominent individual in Skowhegan, Maine until his death. Born on a farm in Old Canaan later renamed to Skowhegan , Maine, Coburn served three years in the Maine House of Representatives before being elected Governor in 1863. He became prominent in Skowhegan society, serving as the president of Skowhegan Savings Bank and becoming president and director of the Maine Central Railroad . He was the uncle of the writer Louise Helen Coburn . Many of his historical items can be seen in a museum she began, the Skowhegan History House. Upon his death in 1885, Coburn left convert 12 acre m2 to the town of Skowhegan to make a public park. Coburn Park was opened in 1907. Captain Abner Howell August 15, 1744 &ndash 1797 served as a Captain in the Third Company Third Battalion, Washington County, Pennsylvania, Militia during the American Revolutionary War . He was born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey , the son of Hugh and Margaret Howell. Abner married Mary Gregg, daughter of a Quaker family from Kennett, Chester County, Pennsylvania . On December 25, 1769, Mary was disowned by her Quaker meeting for marrying Abner Howell. Citation needed date February 2007 Before the American Revolutionary War , Abner and his family moved to western Pennsylvania . After the Revolution, Abner served as a Captain in the Third Company Third Battalion in the Washington County, Pennsylvania Militia and as Captain of the Washington County Rangers. On July 15, 1781, Abner Howell was elected Justice of the Peace, Amwell Township, Pennsylvania Amwell Township , Washington County, Pennsylvania . On August 7, 1787, his eldest daughter, Rhoda, married Job Stout, a war veteran from New Jersey.
