JohnAllen 1789 1831 was an English bookseller and antiquary, notable for his work on the history of Herefordshire . Allen was the son of a Hereford man, who as far back as 1775 was the leading bookseller in the county. Besides attending to an extensive printing and new book trade, the younger Allen took an active part in local affairs, and brought together the remarkable collection of antiquities, books, manuscripts, maps, and prints relating to Herefordshire, described in his Bibliotheca . A history of the county, with which he had made some progress, has never been published. He was born JohnAllen Johnson also spelled Johnston , the eldest son of Allen Johnson, of Kilternan in County Dublin , by his wife Olivia, only daughter of John Walsh, of Ballykilcavan in Queen s County . The second son was Sir Henry Johnson, 1st Baronet Henry Johnson , who was created Johnson Baronets a Baronet in 1818. His father died on 30 July 1747, so, on the death of his grandfather Allen Johnson on 25 August following, Johnson succeeded to the family estates. On 24 February 1775 he was created Johnson Walsh Baronets a Baronet in the Baronetage of Ireland . He represented Baltinglass Parliament of Ireland constituency Baltinglass in the Irish House of Commons from 1784 to 1790 and was High Sheriff of Queen s County in 1792. In 1808 he succeeded his maternal uncle Raphael Walsh Dean of Dromore to the estate of Ballykilcavan, and adopted the additional surname of Walsh by Royal Licence of 9 May 1809. John J. Allen August 2, 1871 June 7, 1935 was mayor of Ottawa , Canada, from 1931 to 1933. He was born in Dungannon, Ontario Dungannon in Huron County, Ontario in 1871. In 1900, he came to Ottawa and opened a drug store eventually, he and his partner, William Cochrane, sold their business to United Drug Stores, later Rexall . Allen and Cochrane later established a brokerage firm. He served as president of the Rotary International Rotary Club in the city and later served as district governor. During Allen s term as mayor, he initiated repairs of the city sewer system which helped generate employment during the Great Depression . Allen died of a myocardial infarction heart attack in Montreal in 1935 and was buried in the Beechwood Cemetery Ottawa, Ontario Beechwood Cemetery . He is especially remembered for his illustrations for the novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs , although he illustrated works of many types. He taught at the Chicago Art Institute and with the American Academy of Art . He is considered by many to be The Godfather of Modern Fantasy Art . John Clayton Allen February 14, 1860 January 12, 1939 was an United States American politician who represented Illinois in the United States House of Representatives from 1925 1933. Allen was born in Hinesburg, Vermont in 1860. He attended the common schools and Beeman Academy , New Haven, Vermont before he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1881, and to McCook, Nebraska in 1886. He engaged in mercantile pursuits at both places. He was a member of the McCook City Council 1887 1889 mayor of McCook, Nebraska in 1890 and Secretary of State of Nebraska 1891 1895. Allen moved to Monmouth, Illinois in 1896 and became president of the John C. Allen Co. department store and of the People s National Bank of Monmouth. He served as member of the State normal school board 1917 1927 and was elected as a Republican to the Sixty ninth and to the three succeeding Congresses March 4, 1925 March 3, 1933 . He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1932 to the Seventy third Congress and for election in 1934 to the Seventy fourth Congress . After leaving Congress, he resumed his former business pursuits in Monmouth, Illinois until his death there in 1939. He was buried in Vermont Cemetery, Vermont, Illinois .
