    John Gordon circa c. 1655 &ndash 24 August 1730 was a Kingdom of Great Britain British politician and merchant . He was a Member of Parliament from 1708 to 1710. Earlier life A descendant of George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly , Gordon was a factor agent factor at Campvere, Netherlands Campvere , the staple port for Scotland in Friesland , during the 1680s. He continued to do business in Rotterdam until 1702. He served as List of Provosts and Lord Provosts of Aberdeen Lord Provost of Aberdeen from 1705 until 1708. A devout Presbyterianism Presbyterian , he was the first to sign a loyal address from the council to Anne of Great Britain Queen Anne upon the repulse of the Jacobitism Jacobite attempt at landing in the Firth of Forth . Political career Gordon was elected to Parliament of Great Britain Parliament in the British general election, 1708 1708 general election for the new constituency of Aberdeen Burghs UK Parliament constituency Aberdeen Burghs . He took little part in affairs of state, and served on a few Parliamentary committees of local importance. Gordon was dropped from Aberdeen Council in 1710 and discouraged from standing for re election to Parliament, and he stood down at the British general election, 1710 1710 general election . From 1716 to 1718, he again served as Lord Provost, and took part in efforts to purge episcopalian and Jacobite elements from the University of Aberdeen .     Use dmy dates date April 2012 John Gordon c. 1776 16 July 1858 was a Scottish soldier and Tory politician. Gordon was the son of Charles Gordon of Braid and Cluny , Aberdeenshire, and his wife Johanna Trotter. Gordon became 2nd lieutenant in the Royal Aberdeenshire Light Infantry on 2 December 1800. He was then lieutenant in the 7th Company of the 55th Aberdeenshire Militia on 25 April 1804. In 1804 Gordon made a grand tour of Egypt, carving his name on many ancient monuments. He returned home via Gibraltar where he boarded HMS Victory , which also brought home the mortal remains of Lord Nelson Admiral Horatio Nelson . He arrived back in England in December 1805.     John Gordon Privy Council of Ireland PC 23 November 1849 &ndash 26 September 1922 was an Ireland Irish lawyer and politician, who served as Attorney General for Ireland and a Judge of the High Court. Gordon was the son of Samuel Gordon, of Shankhill, County Down . He was educated at National University of Ireland, Galway Queen s College Galway , a constituent college of the Queen s University of Ireland, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1873, and LL.B. in 1876. He served as auditor of the college s Literary & Debating Society Literary and Debating Society for the 1873 1874 session. He was awarded an L.L.D. honoris causa on the dissolution of the Queen s University in 1882. He was called to the Irish Bar by the King s Inns in 1877. Gordon was elected a Member of Parliament for the South Londonderry UK Parliament constituency South Londonderry constituency in 1900, as a representative of the Liberal Unionist interest, and served in the British House of Commons House of Commons until 1916. In June 1915, he was appointed Attorney General for Ireland , an office he held until April 1916, when he was appointed a judge of the King s Bench division of the High Court of Ireland. He also became a member of the Irish Privy Council in 1915. He married Dorothy Clay in 1887. He died in Dublin on 26 September 1922, having been taken ill in a tram on his journey home from the Four Courts . Maurice Healy, who vividly described many of the Irish judges of his youth in The Old Munster Circuit confessed that Gordon had made almost no impression on him except a refusal to wear bright colours.
