The John Hancock Student Village or StuVi is a large new residential and recreational complex at Boston University , covering convert 10 acre m2 between Buick Street and Nickerson Field , ground formerly occupied by a United States National Guard National Guard Armory military Armory , which had been used by the University primarily but not exclusively as a storage facility prior to its demolition and the start of construction. The Student Village was designed with the intention of fostering community and bridging the divide between East and West Campus West campuses . The dormitory of apartment suites at 10 Buick Street often abbreviated to StuVi by students opened to juniors and seniors in the fall of 2000 . In 2002 , John Hancock Insurance announced its sponsorship of the multi million dollar project. The Agganis Arena , named after Harry Agganis , was opened to concerts and ice hockey hockey games in January 2005 . The 7200 seat arena replaced the smaller Walter Brown Arena for Boston University athletics Terrier Hockey Terrier hockey games and has also been used for concerts, shows, and events.     John George Hancock 15 October 1857 &ndash 19 July 1940 was a United Kingdom British Liberal Party UK Liberal Party politician who served as a Member of Parliament MP from 1909 to 1923. He was elected as MP for Mid Derbyshire UK Parliament constituency Mid Derbyshire at a by election in July 1909, as a Liberal candidate. He was one of a group of Trade Union sponsored Liberal MPs who were instructed by their Union to join the Labour party that year. He held his seat under his new Labour party label in both 1910 elections without Liberal opposition. Relations between the Labour and Liberal parties deteriorated after 1910 and they were expected to field candidates against each other at the next election, anticipated to be in 1915. Hancock decided that he would rather defend his seat as a Liberal, so crossed the floor in 1915 to re join the Liberals. He held the seat until the constituency was abolished for the United Kingdom general election, 1918 1918 general election . He was then returned unopposed for the new Belper UK Parliament constituency Belper constituency , and held the seat at the United Kingdom general election, 1922 1922 election against a Labour Party UK Labour Party opponent. However, he was defeated at the United Kingdom general election, 1923 1923 general election by the Conservative Party UK Conservative Party candidate, Herbert Wragg .
