Samuel Thomas Langton 24 January 1886 &mdash 10 July 1918 was an England English cricket er who played first class cricket for Derbyshire County Cricket Club Derbyshire in 1909 and 1910. Langton was born at Parkgate, Rotherham , Yorkshire . He made his debut for Derbyshire in June 1909 in a match against Leicestershire County Cricket Club Leicestershire and made one more appearance during the season, making little contribution to Derbyshire s run count during the season. He played one game in the 1910 season against Sussex County Cricket Club Sussex when he made his top scoring innings of 6 runs. He was a right handed batsman and played 5 innings in 3 matches with a top score of 6 and an average of 2.80. He bowled 13 overs giving 42 runs for no wickets. Langton died at the age of 32 in Doncaster . Langton was the third son of Cornelius Langton of Kirkham, Lancashire , and Elizabeth his wife, daughter of the Rev. Zachary Taylor, headmaster of the grammar school there. He was baptised at Kirkham on 24 September 1698. He was educated at Kirkham Grammar School , and, on being elected to a Barker exhibition, went to Magdalen Hall, Oxford , where he graduated B.A. on 18 Dec. 1721, and M.A. on 10 June 1724. After his ordination he removed to Ireland, where his kinsman, Dr. Clayton, was bishop of Killala, and afterwards of Clogher. He held preferments in the diocese of Killala, and was chaplain between 1746 and 1761 to the Earl of Harrington, lord lieutenant. He held the prebend of Killaraght from 5 July 1735 until 1782, and that of Errew from 6 Dec. 1735 until his death. In November 1761 he returned to England, and was present at Kirkham Church in 1769 at the recantation of William Gant, late a Roman Catholic priest. He published anonymously a pedantic work entitled An Essay concerning the Human Rational Soul, in three parts, 8vo, Dublin, 1753 Liverpool, 1755 Oxford, 1764. It is situated in the northern dock system in Bootle , connected to Alexandra Dock, Liverpool Alexandra Dock to the north and Brocklebank Dock to the south. Langton Dock Lock water transport locks provide a working connection to the river one of only two remaining operational river entrances in the northern dock system. Officially opened in 1881, the dock had been partially in use since 1879. It was named after William Langton, a member of the dock committee, and a former Chairman of the Bank of Liverpool . As originally built, Langton Dock consisted of a basin adjoining the river wall, with a branch dock and two graving dock s to the east. Daniel Langton is Professor of the History of Jewish Christian Relation in the department of Religions & Theology at the University of Manchester , England . His books include Claude Montefiore His Life and Thought 2002 is an intellectual history and biography of the founder of British Liberal Judaism and one of the most original Jewish scholars of his day. It attempts to place Montefiore within the context of Jewish thought during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It argues that Montefiore s own personal conception of Liberal Judaism, which was never fully appreciated by his followers, should be regarded as more than simply a progressive Jewish denomination, and rather as an attempt to re mould Reform Judaism in terms of contemporary liberal Christianity.
