    John Edwards Leonard September 22, 1845 March 15, 1878 was a United States Representative from Louisiana . He was the grandnephew of John Edwards Pennsylvania who also served in Congress. He was born in Fairville, Pennsylvania . Leonard attended the public schools and was later graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy , Exeter, New Hampshire in 1863 and then earned a law degree from Harvard University in 1867. He studied law in Germany before he returned to the United States and was admitted to the bar in Louisiana in 1870 and commenced practice at Monroe, Louisiana . Leonard was the district attorney of the thirteenth judicial district of Louisiana in 1871 and 1872. He was elected associate justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court in 1876 before he resumed the practice of his profession in Monroe, Louisiana. He was elected as a Republican to the Forty fifth Congress and served from March 4, 1877, until his death in Havana , Cuba , while vacationing with several other Washington leaders on March 15, 1878. He was buried in the Friends Hicksite Cemetery of the Middletown Meeting House, Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania . He was trained at the Queensland Herbarium , which he collected plant specimens for from the 1930s to the 1960s, as well as participating in several international expeditions to New Guinea , the Solomon Islands and Africa . From 1939 to 1966 Brass was an associate curator of the Richard Archbold Archbold Expedition collections with the American Museum of Natural History . He was associated with the Archbold Biological Station at Lake Placid, Florida , for which he helped to formulate the organizational structure it has today, and also where he lived between expeditions. In the course of his many expeditions to New Guinea he was a major collector of plant specimens for the Arnold Arboretum in Massachusetts . He was especially interested in the relationship between the floras of Australia and New Guinea. Brass was director of field operations for an expedition in 1949 50 to tropical Africa , sponsored by the Upjohn and Penick companies, to find precursors for the manufacture of cortisone . Later he was an advisor to an Arnold Arboretum study to search for medical plants in the western Pacific , as well as serving on a National Science Foundation panel regarding botanical study of the islands of the Indian Ocean .     Leonard Fryer died 1605? , was an English artist. Fryer was sergeant painter to Elizabeth I of England Queen Elizabeth , received in 1598 the office of sergeant painter for life. On 26 April 1605 another grant was made with survivorship to Leonard Fryer and John de Crites of the office of sergeant painter, before granted to Leonard Fryer with reversion to John de Crites. As De Critz was shortly afterwards in sole possession of the office, it is probable that Fryer died about this time.
