JohnBaird , D.D. d.1804 , was an Irish Anglicanism Anglican divines divine . Baird came to Dublin from the Isle of Man , and was ordained minister of the presbyterian congregation of Capel Street 11 January 1767. Here he ministered for ten years, not very happily, and in 1777 he was compelled to resign. Shortly after doing so he brought out the first and only volume of a projected series on the Old Testament a work of some learning, originally delivered as lectures at Capel Street, and dedicated 12 November 1777 to James Trail , bishop of Down . Baird soon afterwards conformed, and on 7 Sept. 1782 was appointed by the crown to the rectory of Cloghran , near Dublin, where he died unmarried early in 1804. He published Dissertations, Chronological, Historical, and Critical, of all the Books of the Old Testament through which are interspersed Reflections, Theological and Moral, &c., Dublin, 1778, vol. i. extending to Exod. xx. JohnBaird 1799 1861 , was a Scottish Anglicanism Anglican divines divine . Baird was the eldest son of the Rev. James Baird, who was successively minister of Legertwood, Eccles, and Swinton, all in Berwickshire , was born at Eccles 17 Feb. 1799, and educated at the Whitsome and Kelso High School Scotland Kelso grammar schools. Later he proceeded to the University of Edinburgh , where, in 1823, he founded the Plinian Society for the study of natural history, and was its first president. Going to Ireland in 1825, he was for some time engaged by the Irish Evangelical Society as one of their preachers. In 1829 he was ordained minister of Yetholm, Roxburghshire, where he died 29 Nov. 1861. A colony of gipsies, who were little better than heathens, had long been settled at Kirk Yetholm , and Baird set himself resolutely to reclaim these people, and to make them Christians and useful members of society. The work was done in connection with a society formed in Edinburgh for the Reformation of the Gipsies in Scotland, and it met with a considerable amount of success. Baird wrote the Scottish Gipsies Advocate, Edinburgh, 1839, and contributed an Account of the Parish of Yetholm to the New Statistical Account of Scotland . A memoir of him, by W. Baird London, 1862 , contains a list of words used by the gipsies of Yetholm, compared with Grellman s list of the continental gipsy language , and the corresponding words in Hindustani. Sir JohnBaird of Newbyth , Lord Newbyth 1620 1698 , was a Scottish advocate , judge, politician and diplomat. He served as Commissioner for Aberdeenshire historic Aberdeenshire in the Parliament of Scotland . Baird was the son of James Baird of Byth in the same county, advocate, and for some time commissary of Edinburgh , and Bathia, daughter of Sir John Dempster of Pitliver John Dempster of Pitliver , was admitted advocate on 3 June 1647. It must have been about the same year that he married Margaret, daughter of Sir William Hay of Linplum , by whom he had four children, three sons and one daughter, viz. John, born on 4 Oct. 1648 Margaret, born on 23 Dec. 1649 John, born on 23 Sept. 1652 and William, born on 12 Nov. 1654. Baird appears to have been knighted by Charles II of Scotland Charles II on his accession to the throne of Scotland in 1651, In the correspondence of the Earls of Earl of Ancram Ancram and Earl of Lothian Lothian 1616 67 we find him referred to as Sir .John, under date 1653. Thenceforward his name occurs with some frequency in that correspondence, and usually in such a connection as to suggest that he was regarded as a person of some weight and sagacity. Like his father he belonged to the covenanting party , and was considered of sufficient consequence to be excluded from the operation of the Act of Indemnity of 1662 Act of Indemnity passed by the parliament of Scotland in 1662, being then muleted in the sum of 2,400l. His eminence at the bar, however, could not be ignored, and in 1664 he was created an ordinary lord of session , assuming the title of Lord Newbyth. Orphan date November 2010 JohnBaird Simpson January 14, 1894 &ndash June 28, 1960 , was a Scottish geologist. Simpson was born at Glenferness, Ardclach , Nairnshire , Scotland. After schooling at Nairn Academy, he went to the University of Aberdeen, where he graduated with a BSc in Agriculture, in 1914. He joined the Royal Engineers that same year, and was then commissioned in the Gordon Highlanders . He was wounded, and badly gassed, during active service in France. He returned to civil life in 1918, and resumed his studies at the University of Aberdeen later that year, graduating in 1920 with a degree in Pure Science, with special distinction in Geology. Later in 1920, he was appointed to the field staff of the Geological Survey in Scotland. He was promoted to Senior Geologist in 1932, and to District Geologist in 1945. He retired in 1954. His work with the Survey fell into two broad categories. He carried out a lot of the early earliest mapping of the Western Highlands and Islands of Scotland, including the Lewisian complex Lewisian of Coll and Tiree , the Mesozoic sediments and Tertiary lavas of Morvern and Ardnamurchan , and the Moine Schists of Ardnamurchan, Sunart and South Morar. Some of his most important work concerned the Scottish Coalfields and their associated rocks, in Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire, Dumbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Midlothian , leading to significant upward revisions to reserves estimates. He mapped superficial deposits, in particular the boulder clays of Ayrshire, which led to new time correlations of glacial events in Scotland and Scandinavia. Some of this work was submitted to the University of Aberdeen for the degree of DSc, which was conferred on him in 1933. The other aspect of his work built on his early agricultural and botanical training ... Persondata Metadata see Wikipedia Persondata . NAME Simpson, JohnBaird ALTERNATIVE NAMES SHORT ...
