JohnWesleyHunt 1773 1849 was a prominent businessman and early civic leader in Lexington, Kentucky . He was one of the first millionaires west of the Allegheny Mountains . Moving to Lexington in 1795, Hunt became a merchant, horsebreeder, hemp manufacturer, and banker. In 1799, President of the United States President John Adams named Hunt as postmaster of Lexington. In 1814, Hunt built a two story brick mansion known as Hopemont today known as The Hunt Morgan House for him and his wife Catherine. His son Charlton Hunt became the first mayor of Lexington. In the winter of 1839 1840, Hunt introduced the Standardbred horse Messenger strain to Kentucky. JohnWesleyHunt s grandson, JohnHunt Morgan , was a famous Confederate States Army Confederate general during the American Civil War . A great grandson, Dr. Thomas Hunt Morgan , was the first Kentuckian to win a Nobel Prize . Hunt is buried in the family plot in the Lexington Cemetery . JohnWesley Crockett 1807 1852 was an American politician who represented Tennessee s Tennessee s 12th congressional district twelfth district in the United States House of Representatives . It was the same district his father, David Crockett , had represented earlier. Biography JohnWesley Crockett was born in Trenton, Tennessee on July 10, 1807 to David Davy Crockett August 17, 1786 March 6, 1836 and his first wife, Mary Polly Finley 1788 1815 . JohnWesley Crockett had one brother and one sister by the names of William Finley Cro In 1843, he moved to New Orleans and became a commission merchant . He was also a newspaper editor, publishing the National from May 22, 1848 and establishing the Crescent around 1847. In 1852, Crockett moved to Memphis, Tennessee . He died there the same year onckett and Margaret Finley Polly Crockett. He was educated in the Public school government funded public school system, studied law, and then was admitted to the bar association bar . He began his law practice in Paris, Tennessee . Crockett held numerous local and state offices before being elected as a Whig Party United States Whig to the Twenty fifth United States Congress Twenty fifth and Twenty sixth United States Congress Twenty sixth Congresses . He served from March 4, 1837 to March 3, 1841. Crockett was next elected by the Tennessee General Assembly to be the attorney general for the ninth district of Tennessee , and served from 1841 to 1843. November 24 at the age of 45. JohnWesley Hillman March 29, 1832 &ndash March 19, 1915 was an United States American prospecting prospector during the California Gold Rush and explorer who was among the first European American s to see Crater Lake in the U.S. state of Oregon . Hillman was born in Albany, New York . In 1848, at the age of 16, he moved with his family to New Orleans, Louisiana . Not long after relocating to New Orleans, Hillman accompanied his father on an expedition to California during the Gold Rush in April 1849, and stayed out west when his father returned to the east. On June 12, 1853, JohnWesley Hillman was reportedly the first European American to see what he named Deep Blue Lake in Oregon.
