  1. Grace Marks

Grace Marks c. 1828 after c. 1873 was a Province of Canada Canadian maid who was convicted in 1843 of murder in the death of her employer Thomas Kinnear, and was suspected of murdering his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery. Her conviction was controversial, and sparked much debate about whether Marks was actually instrumental in the murder, or merely an unwitting accessory. Marks was born and raised in Ireland , had eight siblings, with another three who were stillborn. Marks s father, a stonemason, was an alcoholic and abusive person. The family emigrated to Canada in 1840 when she was 12. Her mother died on the ship en route to Canada, and was buried at sea. In her murder trial, Marks was tried alongside James McDermott. 1. Shadow marks

Unreferenced auto yes date December 2009 Shadow marks are a form of Archaeology archaeological feature visible from the air. Unlike cropmarks , frost marks and soil mark s they require upstanding features to work and are therefore more commonly seen in the context of extant sites rather than previously undiscovered buried ones. They are caused by the differences in height on the ground produced by archaeological remains. In the case of ancient, eroded earthworks engineering earthworks these differences are often small and they are most apparent when viewed from the air, when the sun is low in the sky. This causes long shadows to be cast by the higher features, which are illuminated from one side by the sun, with dark shadows marking hollows and depressions. Shadow marks are best viewed obliquely rather than from directly above in order to emphasise the effect of the shadows.
