    Jotham Blanchard March 15, 1800 &ndash July 14, 1839 was a lawyer, newspaper editor and political figure in Nova Scotia , Canada. He represented Halifax County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1830 to 1836. He was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire , United States, the son of Jonathan Blanchard and Sarah Goggins, and came to Truro, Nova Scotia with his parents in 1801. The family later settled at Pictou, Nova Scotia Pictou . Blanchard was educated at the Pictou Academy , went on to study law and was called to the bar in 1822. He became editor of the Colonial Patriot in Pictou in 1827. In 1832, he married Margaret Spears. Near the end of his term in the assembly, Blanchard s participation was limited due to poor health and he died in Truro at the age of 39.     Jotham Gay April 11, 1733 &ndash October 16, 1802 was an army officer and political figure in Nova Scotia . He represented Cumberland County in the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia from 1772 to 1774. The son of the Reverend Ebenezer Gay and Jerusha Bradford, he was probably born in Hingham, Massachusetts . Gay received a land grant in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia Cumberland County in 1761. He was a colonel in the continental army, serving at Fortress of Louisbourg Louisbourg and at Fort Beaus jour . He was elected to the assembly in a 1772 by election held after Joshua Winslow was unseated for non attendance. Judah was among the first Jew s to become attorneys in early Canada the first was a distant cousin, Aaron Ezekiel Hart , son of Ezekiel Hart , called to the bar in 1824. Judah was born in London in 1808. He studied law at Trois Rivi res, Quebec Trois Rivi res , was called to the bar in 1829 and set up practice at Trois Rivi res. He married Harline Kimber, the daughter of a doctor Ren Joseph Kimber , in 1834. In 1840, he moved his practice to Montreal . Judah was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada for Champlain electoral district Champlain in an 1843 by election held after his father in law was named to the Legislative Council. He was named Queen s Counsel in 1854. He helped found the Montreal City and District Savings Bank now the Laurentian Bank of Canada and later served as its president. Judah also helped promote the Montreal and Bytown Railway . Judah died at Montreal in 1883.
