The laboratory is focused on mechanism of and effects on T cell activations and suppressions mediated by certain types of antigen which are able to inference the commitment of antigen presenting cells. The laboratory is also focus its attention on the development of technologies which improve immunopotency of nuclei acid based vaccine, as well as employing vaccinome platform to design the suitable therapeutic and prophylactic vaccines against immuno disorders and infectious pathogens. Based on our recent developments for the conceptual vaccine designs, we have tested in several viral disease models including FMDV, CSFV, NDV and HBV. The significant progress has been made on the designing and testing nuclei acid vaccine against FMDV infection in large animals. The design has been incorporated with several recent discoveries made by this laboratory for improving immune response, particularly on the efficient antigen presentation and activation of T cell responses. The Center of Molecular Immunology Centro de Inmunolog a Molecular or CIM , is a cancer research institution located on the west side of Havana , Cuba . Opened on December 5, 1994, it focuses on the research and production of new biopharmaceutical products for the treatment of cancer and other nontransmissible diseases. Facilities The design and construction of the Center of Molecular Immunology was modeled on current Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines recommended by the World Health Organization and adopted by Cuba, particularly those also adopted by the member countries of the European Union, then known as the European Community. Research labs, production areas and administrative offices share the 15,000 square meters of the two floor facility. Approximately 800 employees work at the CIM, most of them scientists and engineers. These personnel are administratively organized in three main areas Research and Development, Production, and Quality Assurance. Research Basic research projects are focused on cancer immunotherapy , especially the development of molecular vaccines. These include antibody engineering, cellular engineering, bioinformatics and regulation of the immune response . CIM conducts clinical trials in diagnostic imaging and cancer therapy of varying origin, as well as other immune system diseases, in highly specialized hospitals. In August 2011 it was announced that the Center of Molecular Immunology released CimaVax EGF , the first therapeutic cancer vaccine for lung cancer . ref cite news url http www.popsci.com science article 2011 09 cuba releases worlds first lung cancer vaccine title Cuba Announces Release of the World s First Lung Cancer Vaccine publisher PopSci date 2011 08 09 accessdate 2011 12 11 ref Products Today CIM produces biopharmaceutical ... for the commercialization of the products and services of the Center of Molecular Immunology ...
