  1. Wife of Julius Nepos

The wife of Julius Nepos was the last empress of the Western Roman Empire Roman Empire in the West , whose husband reigned from 474 through 480, although he was in exile from his capital after 475. His surname he obtained through his marriage. His wife s given name is not in any primary source, all of which report her as the neptis of Leo I the Thracian , Eastern Roman Empire Roman Empire in the East 457 74 , and his spouse Verina . The word neptis could translate as granddaughter, niece or close relative, but it is usually assumed that Julius wife was Leo s niece, and more likely related by blood to Verina rather than Leo. The historian Malchus historian Malchus reports, Verina also joined in urging this, giving a helping hand to the wife of Nepos, her relative . ref http www.roman emperors.org nepos.htm Ralph W. While these extended families on occasion failed to succeed to the throne, they did manage to endure political upheavals and remain prominent for generations. Verina certainly seems to have played her part in advancing relatives. Between 468 and 476, Basiliscus , Armatus and Nepos assume high ranking military positions. 1. Book of Nepos

unreferenced date February 2011 The Book of Nepos is one of the texts of the New Testament apocrypha , written by an Egyptian bishop, Nepos. He was a strict literalist believing the entire Bible is true in a literal sense , and his text, also known as the Refutation of the Allegorisers was aimed at refuting the arguments of those who held that certain sections of the Bible were mere allegory . In particular, the text is aimed at discrediting the position, held by a minority of Christians at the time, that the book of Revelation should be interpreted allegorically rather than literally. Amongst the teachings in the text is the belief that Jesus would come to earth and physically reign as monarch for 1000 years during an age of righteous delight. This belief was regarded as fairly orthodox in the early church e.g. it was held by Irenaeus , and Justin Martyr , however, the later church came to view Revelation as more allegorical. Indeed, Dionysius of Alexandria felt moved to write a text On the Promises against it, although he regarded Nepos highly and attempted to criticize the doctrine without insulting Nepos personally. The Book of Nepos was so popular within the villages around Alexandria that Dionysius went there in person to refute it. In deference to Nepos and the prior orthodoxy of strict literalism, he did so politely, entering a respectful dialogue with those from the village and contesting each of the arguments they took from the Book of Nepos in turn. Nechtan grandson of Uerb, ref The word nepos can mean grandson or nephew, but probably means nephew some variants read son of . Perhaps a female name, cognate with the Old Irish language Old Irish Ferb ESSH p. 145, note 3. Variant forms include Uerp, Irb and Yrp. He may be the Nechtan son of Canu whose death appears in the Annals of Ulster for 621, although this would be difficult to reconcile with the idea that he was Neithon son of Guipno son of Dumnagual I of Alt Clut Dumnagual Hen of Alt Clut. ref Nechtan son of Guipno per Smyth, pp. 62&ndash 65 and table 2. ref It has been suggested that the Canu or Cano referred to in the Annals of Ulster is the Canu Garb named by Senchus fer n Alban , making this Nechtan the grandson of Gartnait II of the Picts Gartnait II , who has been suggested as a son of ed n mac Gabr in of D l Riata . ref Bannerman, pp. 92&ndash 94.
