It was released by Mustang Records in November 1965 in stereo and mono. It was released in promotion of the local Los Angeles radio station, KRLA . The album was put out soon after Let Her Dance made the top 40 charts locally. Bob Keane wanted a drag racing album, featuring surf instrumentals, covers, and some singles, however, his original vision changed along the way. ref http aaronpoehler.com strangecase.html ref In the end, four new drag racer songs were recorded for the album. The title track, King of the Wheels, is a reworking of an earlier Bobby Fuller song, King of the Beach.     Refimprove date November 2010 The Sunrays previously known as Larry Tremaine & The Renegades were an United States American band from Pacific Palisades, California . Career Their first job as the Renegades in the late 1950s was at the Seaside Session at Palisades Park in Pacific Palisade. In 1961 they teamed up with Larry Tremaine, and became Larry Tremaine and the Renegades, a rock and roll cover version cover band, consisting of Larry Tremaine, Steve O Riley now deceased , Marty DiGiovanni, Rick Henn, Eddy Medora now deceased , and Vince Hozier now deceased . Tremaine was able to keep them working every week at radio dances, UCLA, clubs, celebrity parties and corporate events. They starred at Crescendo Interlude on Sunset Strip with Joey Dee and the Starlighters , the Teen Age Fair at Pacific Ocean Park , the after party for the 1963 Academy Awards , The Bob Eubanks TV Dance Party, and every Friday night the house dance party band in San Bernardino, California Civic Auditorium. In 1963, Tremaine went into the radio stations KBLA and KRLA , and later television, and became the host of the syndicated nationwide Casion Royale Dance Party . In 1964, the group changed their name to The Sunrays, and Mendora switched from the saxophone to rhythm guitar. O Riley left the band and they appointed a new lead guitarist. Suzie Capetta and her younger brothers, Michael and Robert, got their start in the music industry while growing up in Redondo Beach, California in the 1960s. At the age of 15, Suzie wrote a song about a local Los Angeles, California disc jockey Dave Hull The Hullabalooer which became a regional hit when she, her two brothers, and two cousins recorded the song in the winter of 1964. The recording was chosen by Casey Kasem as a KRLA DJ Pick To Hit . Casey s prediction was correct when the song made the Top 40 charts in Los Angeles on March 7th, 1965. The Quintet was dubbed The Scuzzies by Dave Hull himself when he first aired the song on his radio show. Suzie also wrote and recorded, with the help of her brothers, several jingles for Los Angeles radio station KRLA. Among those was a jingle the Scuzzies recorded promoting Baskin Robbins new Scuzzy ice cream flavor combination. As the Scuzzies, they made television appearances on 9th Street West with Sam Riddle in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California and TV 8 Dancetime with Bob Hower in San Diego, California . They were featured in Bob Eubanks Cinnamon Cinder and Casey Kasem s Clubs. One of the highlights for the Scuzzies in 1965 was when they became the opening act for Sonny & Cher at the Grand Opening of Jamaica West Jr. in Torrance, California . 1969 saw brother Michael fulfilling his obligation in the US Navy, while Suzie toured with the USO Shows in 1970, singing and playing bass guitar in The Harrison & Tyler Show , the first All Girl band in USO history.
